Zaydman Leads Final 23 in Event 11

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Chip leader Elliott Zaydman
Chip leader Elliott Zaydman

Day 1 of Event 11: $1,090 $100,000 Guaranteed Six-Max NLHE Reentry is in the books, and leading the 23 remaining players is Elliott Zaydman. Zaydman, who has $212,364 in career lifetime earnings, won a massive, 400,000-chip pot against Ketan Pandya in Level 14. Zaydman flopped a set of sixes, Pandya held an ace-high flush draw, and Zaydman faded a diamond on both the turn and the river.

Zaydman finished the day with 402,100 chips, and was the only player to bag more than 300,000. His closest competitors entering Day 2 will be Frank Bonaco (297,500), Kevin Saul (273,400), and Jeff Madsen (255,400).

Also among the final 23 players are Alex Rocha (223,900), Justin Young (174,200), and "Action" Bob Hwang (140,400). Hwang's largest cash came here at Borgata, when he finished fifth in the WPT Borgata Poker Open for $299,730, while Young, who has over $3.2 million in career live tournament earnings, is searching for his first cash at this venue.

Five of the returning players will walk away empty-handed, and the top 18 players will receive a minimum of $1,862. The winner of this 192-player event will earn $52,150, along with the hardware.

Several notable players were unable to survive Day 1 of Event 11, including Eric Baldwin, Mike Leah, Keven Stammen, Matt Giannetti, David Tuthill, Dan Wach, and Ravi Raghavan. Tuthill ran {q-Hearts}{q-Spades} into Zaydman's {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs} in Level 14, while Wach was unable to hit flush and straight draws against Sean Wallace's pocket aces.

Day 2 will begin at noon on Saturday, and end when a champion is crowned. Be sure to return for exclusive live updates straight from the tournament floor from PokerNews!

Lind Leaves

Kenneth Lind - Peace!
Kenneth Lind - Peace!

Kenneth Lind three-bet shoved all in from the blinds with {8-}{8-}, and was racing against the {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs} of "Action" Bob Hwang.

The {q-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{3-Clubs} flop pushed Hwang into the lead, the {k-Diamonds} on the turn gave him trips, and the {4-Clubs} on the river put a theoretical nail in Lind's tournament coffin.

On an adjacent table, Shawn Busse was also eliminated.

Huge Double for Cohen

Mike Cohen doubles
Mike Cohen doubles

Kenneth Lind fired out a pot-sized bet of 15,000 on a flop of {q-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}, Mike Cohen raised to 45,000, and Lind made the call.

The turn was the {4-Spades}, Lind instantly moved all in for effectively 94,900, and Cohen snap-called.

Lind: {q-Spades}{2-Spades}
Cohen: {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}

The {a-Hearts} bricked off on the river, and Cohen doubled to 295,000 chips. Lind slipped to 35,000.

Tuthill and Giannetti Bust

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Matt Giannetti - Eliminated
Matt Giannetti - Eliminated

Right before break, we lost Matt Giannetti and David Tuthill here in Event 11: $1,090 $100,000 Guaranteed Six-Max NLHE Reentry.

Tuthill was all in and at risk with {q-Hearts}{q-Spades} preflop, and unfortunately for him, Elliott Zaydman had him dominated with {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}.

"That's the only way they can get me," Tuthill said, standing up.

He was unable to bink a two-outer or run down a straight or flush as the board came {3-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{9-Spades}, and he was eliminated.

While this was going down, Giannetti was racing against Kenneth Lind. Giannetti raised to 4,000 in early position, Greg Jensen three-bet to 14,000 on the button, and Lind moved all in for 72,700. Giannetti called all in for slightly less, and Jensen folded.

Giannetti: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Lind: {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}

The {10-Spades}{8-Spades}{6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} board didn't improve the 2011 WSOP November Niner's hand, and he hit the rail.

Matt Giannetti Hanging Around

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Matt Giannetti
Matt Giannetti

Earlier we talked about Ravi Raghaven and his financial prowess in poker tournaments. One player who has earned more that is taking part in the action here today is Matt Giannetti who has $4.365 million in lifetime tournament earnings.

A good chunk of that came when Giannetti made the November Nine of the World Series of Poker Main Event back in 2011 for slightly over three million dollars but he's proven he is no one hit wonder as he recently won the World Poker Tour Lucky Hearts Poker Open in February for $298,304.

Giannetti recently picked up a nice sized pot when he bet 6,700 on the {J-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop and called his opponent's 18,500 raise. The two checked the {5-Hearts} turn and Giannetti led out for 9,000 when the river came {J-Clubs}. His opponent mucked to give Giannetti the pot, moving his stack to approximately 80,000.

Sean Wallace Fades Draws to Double

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Sean Wallace
Sean Wallace

With the board showing {10-Hearts}{7-Spades}{5-Spades}, Sean Wallace led out for 4,500 and Dan Wach made it 13,000 to go.

Wallace put in another raise, this time to 35,000. Wach didn't think long before announcing he was all in and Wallace snap-called and turned over {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}.

Wach was on a draw with {J-Spades}{8-Spades} and would pick up some more out when the turn came {4-Clubs}. Any spade, nine, or six would give him the knock out.

The river, however, was a third Ace, the {A-Hearts} and Wallace wins the huge pot to move his stack to 165,000 while Wach is knocked down to 26,000.

Playing for Peter

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Chris Tryba's cousin Peter is in need of a kidney transplant
Chris Tryba's cousin Peter is in need of a kidney transplant

Chris Tryba is an experienced poker pro who has played on the game's biggest and brightest stages, as the gold bracelet he won during the 2012 World Series of Poker proves.

Despite playing for - and winning - prizes well over the six-figure mark, Tryba is here today playing for what may be the most important reason in anybody's life: family.

His cousin Peter Tryba - a devoted husband and father - is in desperate need of a kidney transplant within the next 3-6 months. With organ donor lists notoriously long Peter is in a race against time, and who better to have on his side than a man who wins races for a living.

Chris has decided to donate 10 percent of his potential winnings from the Borgata Spring Poker Open to help fund his cousin's cause, a truly admirable move in a game where selfishness is often lauded as a virtue:

Peter's wife Rachel explained the situation further on a Facebook group page dedicated to finding a solution:

My husband Peter Tryba has suffered from chronic kidney disease (CKD) for the past 13 years. The condition is a result of an autoimmune disease called IgA nephropathy. His condition has been managed with medications to lower his blood pressure and keep his kidney function stable. Unfortunately he is now at the end stage of the kidney disease (ESRD) where his kidneys are only functioning at 13%. He will need a kidney transplant from a donor with a matching blood type (He is A+). We will be going to Tufts to meet with the transplant specialists and get put on a list of people waiting for donors. This can potentially take years to find someone. In the meantime, Peter will need to be put on dialysis, 3 days a week, for 3 hours a session in order to help boost his kidneys in eliminating toxins from his body. Peter is otherwise a young, healthy person who has done everything to manage his condition, but now he needs help. He needs a donor. I am willing to donate my kidney to my husband, but we have a 3 1/2 year old daughter and so I feel that I need to be there to care for both of them during this difficult time. The best option is for someone to volunteer. We wanted to let everyone know that this is what we will be going through in the next few months and would appreciate any information, support, guidance, or advice as we embark upon this journey. Thank you,

Sincerely,
Rachel & Peter Tryba

Aaron Massey
Aaron Massey

With a 6,300 bet in front of his opponent, Aaron Massey made it 17,000 to go, leaving himself with 2,875 behind. His opponent made the call.

"Did you go all in or just call?" asked Massey.

"I didn't say anything," his opponent said, thus making it clear that it was just a call.

"At least I get to act first," Massey retorted.

"You have Ace-King?"

"I have a hand," Massey said, flicking out a bet of 1,125 when the flop came out.

"I'm all in," his opponent said.

Massey shrugged and said "I call" and turned over {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}. It was actually ahead as his opponent had {K-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}. The board would brick out and Massey scored a double up.

Alex Rocha
Alex Rocha

With 19,000 in the pot, Alex Rocha made a 30,000 bet on the river with a board of {Q-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{5-Hearts}. That would be enough to felt his opponent who had 18,500 left behind.

"Really?" he said, looking over at Rocha. "You raise with 9's bro?"

Rocha sat there for a moment and then responded "I need pocket 9's to win?"

His opponent flicked his hand in their, and peeked back at his cards. Rocha sat across the table from him, his head resting lightly on his fists.

"You said you would show me once," he said to Rocha.

"Really?"

"Yeah, right when we sat down."

"I don't remember that," said Rocha.

A few more moments of contemplation. "Aaaaaaaaahhhhh, alright I fold," he said, turning over {K-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} for trip Queens.

"You want me to show?" asked Rocha.

"Yes."

"Alright, but only because I supposedly said I would," Rocha grinned, turning over the bluff... {K-Hearts}{J-Clubs}.

"Wow, sick bet. Well played sir," said Rocha's opponent, shaking his head.

Giannetti Busts Baldwin

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Eric Baldwin
Eric Baldwin

We get to the table with a 5,000 chip in front of Eric Baldwin and 9,500 in front of Matt Giannetti with a board of {Q-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}. As is usual with these two, both are quiet. Eventually Baldwin quietly places a 5,000 chip in front of him to call.

The river was the {A-Spades} and Giannetti announced that he was all in.

"Aaaaahhhhh ****," groaned Baldwin, before letting out a laugh and calling.

Giannetti turned over {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades} leading to a sigh from Baldwin who mucked his hand.
