Rough Start for Leskowitz

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

After a bit of a rough start for Bryan Leskowitz, he finally picked up a pot.

There were two early position limpers before Leskowitz raised to 600. The action folded back to the two players, who came along for the ride, and the dealer fanned an all-heart flop; {j-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{a-Hearts}.

The two players checked, Leskowitz flipped out 1,100, and the two players immediately folded.

"You finally won one!" a player said excitedly, and although it was a bit of a needle, Leskowitz let out a grin.

The Land of Lind

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante
Kenneth Lind's calling card
Kenneth Lind's calling card

Kenneth Lind is one of the only players in the room right now who can claim to own a World Series of Poker gold bracelet, as he took down the Seniors Event Championship last summer.

Lind is a gregarious fellow prone to backclaps and banter, and his genuine interest in the players he meets during his tournament travels is evident in every exchange.

Like Barry Greenstein before him, this WSOP champion has taken to giving a gift to players who bust him from a tournament, and while Lind's calling card is not as flashy as an autographed copy of Ace on the River, it holds a certain meaning nonetheless.

We just saw Lind handing out another of these tokens of appreciation, with young grinder Pete Tarsiewicz the recipient of the unusual gift. Although Tarsiewicz did not dispatch Lind from the tournament (in actuality, Tarsiewicz himself went bust and Lind offered the card as a memento), he was appreciative of the curio given by a poker champion.

He was a little curious as well, heading over to the PokerNews Live Reporting desk to inquire about the mysterious handout, before chuckling when he heard the backstory. Tarsiewicz then headed to the registration desk to reenter, and if he plays his cards right on the felt and eventually busts Lind, he very well may have a pair of calling cards to call his own.

Quintin Tramples

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

Quintin Trammell opened for 450 from early position, finding three callers to see the flop fall {2-Clubs}{5-Spades}{j-Hearts}.

The big blind player checked to Trammell, who c-bet for 1,075, and two players called with the button getting out of the way.

On the {4-Hearts} turn, the big blind checked again and Trammell fired away with a 2,075 wager. This time only the player in middle position called, with the big blind checking out.

The river produced the {6-Hearts} and Trammell suddenly slowed down by knuckling the felt. His opponent did the same and rolled over {Q-}{J-}, but Trammell tabled the {K-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for a rivered straight.

The Kat Bird Seat

Katayon Khaterzai
Katayon Khaterzai

We've spotted another familiar face in the crowd here today, as Katayon Khaterzai is trying her best to make another deep run here at the Borgata.

Khaterzai made a deep run in the WPT Main Event Championship at the Borgata Winter Poker Open last January, ultimately falling in 28th place for a $15,084 score.

After shining so brightly on the big stage just a few months prior, we're sure she will be a force to be reckoned with here today.

Trouble in Paradis

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

Covering the early stages of a poker tournament can often be an exercise in monotony, as players test the waters with standard plays while contesting smallish pots. Every so often though, a play is made that awes and astounds even the most grizzled veterans of the live reporting game. Thanks to Fred Paradis, we just saw that play personally, and it was a sight to behold.

After a limped pot produced a flop of {8-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}, Paradis led out with a standard bet of 200 and found a caller in Philippe Casciola. The turn card came {k-Clubs} and Paradis fired away with a bet of 400, and once again Casciola simply flatted the bet in position.

When fifth street brought the {6-Diamonds} to the table, Paradis continued with his line and doubled the bet once again, making it 800 to go. That's when Casciola awoke from his slumber and raised to 3,000, putting the pressure back on Paradis.

He was undeterred by the raise, however, and a three-bet to 6,500 was in order. That's when Casciola suddenly moved all in for the four-bet shove, putting his last 12,000 or so into the middle.

Paradis studied the board for a few seconds, as well as Casciola in the next seat to his left, before casually flipping his {K-Hearts}{4-Clubs} face up on the table. For all the world it looked as if Paradis had made the call - after all, he did hold a full house and could beat aces, a set of eights, and literally every hand in the deck except {K-}{6-} and {K-}{8-}.

Casciola, for his part, was a bit surprised and he had to ask if a call had been made when he saw Paradis' hand hit the felt.

In the end though, Paradis was convinced that Casciola held the {k-}{8-}, and he moved on from the hand without a second thought.
