We met New York City attorney Theodore Goldbergh yesterday as Day 1c was nearing its end, as he let us know about his history here at the Borgata.

Apparently Goldbergh took down the first ever poker tournament held at Atlantic City's premier gaming establishment, and since that accomplishment years ago, he has been enamored with the game. Goldbergh survived the gauntlet of this event's triumvirate of starting flights to earn a seat here on Day 2, and after an early win he appeared to be well on his way to another deep run.

We watched as Goldbergh reraised a middle position player's opening bet of 14,000, making it 30,000 flat to play. The opponent called to take the flop, and after a tap of the table to him, Goldbergh shoved all-in for his last 40,000 or so chips. The power play worked to perfection, and Goldbergh jumped over the 100,000 chip mark just minutes into the day.

Unfortunately for Goldbergh, the run came to an abrupt end at the hands of a brutal bad beat.

Goldbergh held and watched a flop of hit the board. With two opponents standing between him and another major pot, Goldbergh pushed out a bet of 35,000, receiving a lone caller from the cutoff position. When the arrived on the turn, Goldbergh moved all-in once again, but this time he was snapped off by the cutoff, who held .

Although he was in the lead with his pair of aces and a king kicker, Goldbergh was fading a flush draw as the cutoff held the ace of spades.

Goldbergh's hands shot up to the sky at the sight of the dreaded spade, and with that, his tournament was over in a flash. Poker can be the cruelest of games, but after getting to know Ted Goldbergh yesterday, we're confident the bad beat won't affect his outlook on the game he loves.
