Event 1: Ivan Bluffs Off to Chestnut

Coleem Chestnut may be the chip leader.
Coleem Chestnut may be the chip leader.

A player in early position raised to 40,000, and Coleem Chestnut three-bet to 120,000 from the cutoff. Alex Ivan shipped his stack of roughly 500,000 in from the big blind. The original raiser quickly folded, and Chestnut announced a call.

Ivan: {5-Clubs}{2-Clubs}
Chestnut: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}

Chestnut had caught Ivan trying to steal the pot, and Ivan was in awful shape. The board ran out {a-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{9-Spades}, and the daring play had come up empty.

"Nice hand," Ivan said with a wry smile.

Event 1: Nguyen Leads Out

Johnson Nguyen raised to 37,000 from middle position, and a fellow big stack on the button made it 88,000 to go. Nguyen made the call, and the two saw a flop of {2-Hearts}{8-Spades}{k-Hearts}. Nguyen switched gears, firing out 125,000. His opponent tanked for a bit, finally folding his hand.

Event 1: Nguyen's Tank Runs Dry

We found Men "The Master" Nguyen contemplating a 430,000 all-in bet from Alynna Le. The board read {k-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}, and Nguyen counted out his stack; it was about 80,000 short so he would be calling off everything.

Nguyen went deep into the tank, thinking for about four minutes. He twice told the dealer he would need considerable time for this decision. For their part, the other players at the table seemed unwilling to call the clock on the seven-time bracelet winner. Finally, Andrew Badecker called for time. When the countdown hit five seconds, Nguyen finally slid his cards to the dealer, saying he was sure he was against ace-king and he folded a combo draw.

Le, who had been staring straight ahead while covering her mouth with a pink scarf, turned over the {k-Clubs} as she collected the pot.

Event 1: Alexandre the Great

With so many players riding stacks of similar size, and the blinds rising every 40 minutes, there have been multiple three-way all-in confrontations.

The latest clash between three players saw {A-Spades}{A-Hearts} go up against {10-Hearts}{10-Spades} and {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}, with the man holding nines at risk of being eliminated.

"Black nine dealer, put a black nine out there!" bellowed the man with the worst hand. "One time!"

As commanded, the dealer fanned the flop with a flourish, and the first card in the window was, of course, the {9-Spades} to fulfill the short-stacked player's wish.

The nine-ball was soon followed by a {10-Clubs} and an {8-Clubs}, however, meaning the set of nines was second-best to Alexandre Navalnii's set of tens. The unfortunate woman holding pocket rockets could only watch as her dominating hand was dashed by a pair of two-outers.

The turn ({2-Diamonds}) and river ({j-Spades}) changed nothing, and with that, Navalnii vaulted to nearly a million chips to put himself in contention for a deep run here on Day 2.

Event 1: James Taken to the Woods(hed)

James Woods Was Eliminated Shortly Before the Bubble Burst
James Woods Was Eliminated Shortly Before the Bubble Burst

Despite entering Day 2 with one of the biggest stacks in the room, actor and poker enthusiast James Woods was eliminated just before the money bubble burst.

We caught Woods with all his chips pushed forward, and experienced tournament veteran Nick Guagenti considering the call.

"Double me up, come on, let's do it!" said Woods, exhorting Guagenti to get involved. "I like my hand."

Guagenti obliged by moving a stack forward to signal a call. Woods tabled the {K-Spades}{q-Spades} for top two pair, and it was clear his table talk was based on the truth.

Unfortunately for Woods, he was up against a better hand, as Guagenti held {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} for a flopped set.

"Jeez!" exclaimed Woods. "I cannot run any worse than I am today. Fifth set I've run into in three levels!"

When the turn ({10-Diamonds}) and river ({J-Clubs}) failed to fill Woods up, he was eliminated just short of a min-cash despite holding the second-largest stack entering Day 2. He didn't seem to be too bothered though, as we spotted Woods wandering the Signature Room downstairs trying to register for today's Survivor No-Limit Hold'em event.

Event 1: Ivan Pulls a Miracle

Alex Ivan opened to 30,000 from the hijack, and the cutoff made the call. The player in the big blind upped the stakes to 107,000, and Ivan tanked for a couple of minutes before shipping all in for 374,000. The cutoff quickly folded, and big blind called immediately.

Ivan: {a-Clubs}{q-Spades}
Opponent: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}

Ivan was miles behind and he began gathering his belongings, but the {j-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{10-Spades} flop was one of the best possible for him, providing a double-gutshot straight draw. A {k-Clubs} turn caused the big blind to slam the table.

"Are you ****ing kidding me?" he said.

The player maneuvered his cards next to Ivan's as the dealer placed a {2-Clubs} river card down. He aimed his phone at the felt to capture the beat.

"You'll take that picture about 30 more times in your lifetime," a veteran at the table remarked.

"I know," the player said with resignation.
