Cohen Shows Overfull

Level 24 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante
Jesse Cohen on Day 2 of Event #8 at the Borgata Winter Poker Open
Jesse Cohen on Day 2 of Event #8 at the Borgata Winter Poker Open

In a three-bet pot, the cutoff checked to Jesse Cohen on the button after a flop of {j-Spades}{a-Clubs}{4-Clubs}. Cohen bet 96,000, and the cutoff made the call. Both players checked the {a-Spades} turn, and a {5-Clubs} completed the community cards. After asking for a rough count of his opponent's chips, the cutoff put Cohen all in for 319,000. Cohen snap-called.

Cohen: {a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}
Cutoff: {a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}

Both players had full houses, but Cohen's was the top full, and he doubled up.

Eric Rappaport on Day 2 of Event 8 of the Borgata Winter Poker Open

Holding {9-}{9-Diamonds} and already in ownership of a huge stack, Eric Rappaport was more than happy to call when a shorty moved all in before him.

His opponent tabled {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} and the final board rolled {a-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{5-Hearts} to keep Rappaport out in front.

Anthony Mangiovi Moves Over 2 Million Mark

Level 24 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante
Anthony Mangiovi on Day 2 of Event 8 of the Borgata Winter Poker Open
Anthony Mangiovi on Day 2 of Event 8 of the Borgata Winter Poker Open

With his stack already one of the biggest left in play, Anthony Mangiovi took his {A-Hearts}{10-Clubs} to war on the {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{10-Diamonds} board.

His unfortunate opponent decided to make his stand with {a-}{9-}, check-raising all in with top pair, but he found himself drawing dead when Mangiovi snapped him off. The {5-Spades} completed the board on the river, and Mangiovi offered a "good game" across the table while claiming his fallen opponent's stack.

Carnevale Wins a Race

Level 23 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

Andrew Carnevale got all in preflop against a player he had covered.

Carnevale: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Opponent: {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}

The flop came {8-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{2-Hearts}.

"One time," Carnevale said, and at that exact moment the dealer turned over the {k-Clubs}. The {6-Diamonds} river cemented Carnevale's win, and he sent his opponent to the rail.

Mangiovi Doubles With "Pretty Good Hand"

Level 23 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

Anthony Mangiovi opened to 45,000 from middle position, and the small blind moved all in. Mangiovi announced a call, but it was premature since the big blind was still in. After that player folded, Mangiovi's call was official.

Mangiovi: {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}
Small blind: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}

"That's a pretty good hand," the small blind said.

It got even better when the board ran out {4-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}, keeping Mangiovi's kings best.

A True Rags to Riches Tale

Level 23 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
David Gerassi is the Overwhelming Chip Leader on Day 2 of Event 8 at the 2014 Borgata Winter Poker Open
David Gerassi is the Overwhelming Chip Leader on Day 2 of Event 8 at the 2014 Borgata Winter Poker Open

After bagging and tagging the biggest stack in the room after Day 1b of this event, terrorizing his tablemates with huge overbets and catching the cards he needed at every turn, David Gerassi is at it again.

According to Gerassi, who currently holds two pristine stacks of gold T25000 chips for a cool million in just those two towers, he hasn't held a hand better than pocket sixes despite his rapid ascent to the top of the leaderboard.

Gerassi told us that a key hand for him involved the lowly {8-Spades}{3-Spades}, after he called a 27,000 preflop raise. The flop came {3-}{3-}{9-} to give Gerassi trip threes, and when he got an opponent to commit the rest of their chips, the rout was on.

Later, Gerassi took {K-}{10-} up against {A-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} and came out on top once again. The flop fell {9-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{a-Spades} to give his opponent top set, but when Gerassi check-called a bet of 45,000, the {q-Hearts} peeled right off on the turn. Gerassi checked his newly made straight, and shoved all in when the other player bet 60,000. The man with three aces and a draw to the nut flush snapped it off, only to see he had been caught up to by the tournament's terror.

The river blanked off of course, and with that, Gerassi surged into a commanding chip position by literally turning his rags into riches.

Phillip Rinaldi Channels Richard Sherman

Level 23 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

With the flop reading {k-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}, Phillip Rinaldi fired out a bet of 50,000 into a short-stacked opponent. With just 150,000 left to play with, that player made his stand and moved all in for the rest of it, forcing Rinaldi into the tank as he contemplated his options.

"It's a hundred more to me?," he asked the dealer as he pondered. "Man, this would be such a light call."

After waiting for more than two minutes to make a decision, Rinaldi finally elected to look his man up and he called while tabling just {A-Clubs}{j-Hearts}.

The all-in player could only muster {Q-Clubs}{j-Spades} for an open-ended straight draw, and while Rinaldi didn't even hold a pair, his ace-high hand had him out in front.

Turn: {3-Clubs}
River: {k-Hearts}

The board bricked out to give Rinaldi the pot, and as it did so, he stood defiantly to inform the table that "you don't make a move like that on me!"

"I'm the only player here who could make that call... and you try that on me?"

As Rinaldi continued the verbal barrage, his shell-shocked opponent could do nothing but stand and make his exit, the frustration evident on his face as he headed away.

Living on a Per Diem

Level 23 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

Diem Phan flopped a set with her {3-Spades}{3-Clubs} when the dealer fanned the {k-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} across the felt.

Fortunately for her, an aggressive opponent held {5-Clubs}{6-Spades} and figured one pair was enough to make his move. After getting the rest of her chips in the middle, Phan found herself in a commanding position, and the {A-Spades} on the turn clinched the win. A meaningless {q-Spades} on the river ended the hand, and Phan moved herself into a more comfortable chip position as Day 2 marches on.
