Day 1bc Completed

Jason Rivkin Tops the Counts After Day 1c

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 400 ante

After a full 16 levels of action on the felt, the third and final starting flight of Event 8 has concluded. It was Jason Rivkin who bagged and tagged the biggest stack, as his 375,500 just squeaked by Joe Mckeehen's 350,000. Both of these players have plenty of experience, so having an arsenal of ammunition at their disposal makes each a threat to continue the dominance when Day 2 kicks at noon local time.

Other chip counts to pay attention to include James Mendenhall (315,000), Andrew Glancy (276,500), Ed O'Connell (225,000), Raj Khanna (225,000), Julian Sacks (211,000), Jacob Wagschal (203,000), Megan Milburn (150,000), Charles Ciresi (106,000), Dan Heimiller (99,000) and Amanda Musumeci (80,500).

There were a number of notable names and local grinders to fire bullets here this evening, as Men Nguyen, Cotton Snuffer, Stephen Burns and Raj Patel all took a shot, but each missed their mark and failed to advance or improve on the stacks they built in earlier flights. Below you will find the entrant information for the entire event, which is now left with just 313 runners after 1,392 registrations were recorded over two days of play.

With the Borgata's guaranteed prize pool of $250,000 needing only 715 runners to be met, tomorrow's field will be playing for nearly double that amount, and a six-figure score awaits for the eventual winner.

Matt Kader Finds the Right Side of a Flip

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 400 ante

Riding a short stack with just about 20 big blinds to play with, Matt Kader knew he needed to make a move if he hoped to have a chance on Day 2 tomorrow.

When he looked down to find {4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} in the hole, he made his stand and hoped for the best. One opponent called him down while tabling {A-Spades}{q-Clubs}, and the race was on.

With his buddy on the rail to sweat the action, Kader saw the {4-Spades} appear in the window, cheering as the flop brought him a set of fours. The board ran clean from there, and with that, Kader doubled up just before the end of this third and final starting flight.

Asher Conniff Finds His Flush

After a flop of {2-Hearts}{3-Spades}{4-Hearts} hit the table, Asher Conniff flatted a bet of 13,000 to see the {6-Clubs} drop on the turn. His opponent tossed out another wager of 24,000 on fourth street, and once again Conniff smooth-called, bringing the {a-Hearts} on the river.

Conniff's opponent went for the gusto now, shoving about 70,000 into the pot, only to see the man in the New York Knicks beanie beat him to the pot as he tabled {q-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for the second-nut flush.

With the win, Conniff pushed to nearly 300,000 chips, putting himself in solid position for a deep run during tomorrow's second day of play.

And to Mrs. Conniff, if you're still out there, we're sorry for the previous error with the spelling of your son's name... it's been a long night.

Dan Heimiller Just Busted Two Players to Nearly Double His Stack

In the game of tournament poker reporting, the time it takes to rush back and type is usually enough to see things change quickly back on the floor, and that was the case recently as Dan Heimiller doubled his stack mere minutes after we recorded his count.

According to Heimiller, he busted two short stacks in short order push over 140,000 in chips.

First, he took {k-Hearts}{10-Hearts} up against {a-}{k-} with the owner of big slick at risk. When the flop brought a {10-} to the table, and no aces arrived on the turn or river, Heimiller notched the knockout.

Shortly thereafter, the owner of a World Series of Poker bracelet won a coin flip when his {9-}{9-} held up over an opponent's {A-}{q-}. With the wins, Heimiller put himself in position to return for tomorrow's Day 2, as he looks to record a cash of $7,000 or more to push over the $4 million mark in lifetime earnings.

O.I. Vey

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Amanda Musumeci's Poker Face is on Display Here, but She Remains in Good Spirits Despite Falling Short in a Cooler Confrontation
Amanda Musumeci's Poker Face is on Display Here, but She Remains in Good Spirits Despite Falling Short in a Cooler Confrontation

Stopping by for a quick round of chip counts, we were pulled into a conversation with Amanda Musumeci and Allard Broedelet regarding a recent hand the two highly skilled players recently contested.

According to the talkative two, Broedelet - a proud native of the Netherlands who now resides in New York - opened for 6,000 under the gun to start the action. Musumeci three-bet to 13,800 and Broedelet flatted to see the flop fall {q-Spades}{k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}. Musumeci then fired out a c-bet of 8,500 and once more Broedelet smooth-called, bringing the {9-Spades} to the table on the turn.

Musumeci threw another bet into the middle, this time for 15,000, only to see Broedelet move all in for about 15,000 more.

According to Musumeci, she was "O.I." at that point ("over it" being the latest addition to poker's acronym heavy vernacular), but she was also pot committed as well, and she called with her {A-}{q-}.

Broedelet did not hold a straight or a flush as Musumeci anticipated, but his {k-}{k-} put him on top nonetheless, and drawing to the case queen, Musumeci watched the river brick off. Despite the loss, she remains in good spirits, laughing it up with her tablemates and flashing her signature smile as she told the story.
