Event 10: Aaron Mermelstein Quadruples Up

Riding a short stack with just about 5,000 left, Aaron Mermelstein made his stand with {10-}{8-} and found three callers.

On the {4-}{5-}{6-} flop, one player made an isolation bet and forced two folds, leaving Mermelstein to table his non-pair hand. He was up against {4-}{4-} after his opponent flopped a set, and the turn ({3-}) put him on the brink of elimination.

River: {7-}

With that, Mermelstein hit gin on the river, making a straight to keep himself in contention midway through Day 1.

One of the biggest stacks in the room right now belongs to Steve Gill, a local grinder who sports a shiny gold World Series of Poker Circuit ring to go with his big stack.

We'll track Gill's progress throughout the rest of this Day 1, as the experienced player looks to keep crushing.

Event 11: Return of the Wolf

Laurence Wolf evidently fired another bullet in the Pot-Limit Omaha tournament since the last time we checked on him, and he doubled up in a recent hand.

Wolf fired 9,000 after a {7-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{10-Spades} flop, and an opponent shoved for 22,000. The next player folded, and Wolf called his last 200 off.

Wolf: {5-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{6-Hearts}
Opponent: {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{10-Hearts}

"Let's get some high cards out there," Wolf's opponent said, but the dealer put a {3-Spades} out there, filling Wolf's straight. A {4-Diamonds} completed the board, and Wolf doubled to 26,000.

Event 10: Crazy Handful of Nothin'

Cotton Snuffer

With the board reading {7-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{9-Hearts}{10-Hearts} by the turn, Cotton Snuffer check-called a bet of 1,500 to see the {8-Spades} complete the board on the river.

Snuffer - the man who has dominated this tournament series while sporting a porkpie hat - then led out for a bet of 8,050. His opponent was not impressed, however, and he immediately moved all in for a sizable amount.

After checking his cards a final time, Snuffer held them up and tossed them into the muck, offering a "nice hand" across the table as he did so.

Players are currently playing at Level 6 with blinds of 200-400.

In a recent hand, Laurence Wolf three-bet to 4,000 before the flop and got two callers. The flop brought {j-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{10-Spades}, and Wolf bet the pot after the first player checked. The next player shoved all in, the first player folded, and Wolf called.

Wolf: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{2-Hearts}
Opponent: {k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{3-Diamonds}

Wolf's aces were in bad shape, and he was drawing dead on the {2-Diamonds} turn.

"Aces don't win in Omaha," a player at the table said as Wolf got up to make his exit.

Meanwhile, Aaron Steury and Dan Heimiller are also in the field.

Event 11: Caruso Doubles

Anthony Caruso got all in on the {j-Clubs}{9-Spades}{10-Spades} flop against one opponent.

Caruso: {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{4-Clubs}
Opponent: {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}

Caruso had flopped the nuts, and his opponent was unable to catch up when the {7-Spades} and {9-Clubs} finished off the board.

"You're a sick man for calling with that preflop," Caruso's opponent said with a smile. Sick or not, Caruso now has around 87,000.

Allen "Chainsaw" Kessler's been spotted in the small field now. Around 50 players remain in the tournament, and blinds are now 150-300.
