David Jackson Leads Final 60 in BFPO Championship

Level 16 : 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
BFPO Championship Day 2 Chipleader David Jackson
BFPO Championship Day 2 Chipleader David Jackson

The Borgata Fall Poker Open has now seen the second day of Event #17: $2,700 Championship come to an end after another exciting eight levels of play and when the last chance saloon had closed for business it was Borgata regular David Jackson leading the final 60 into Day 3.

Jackson advanced from the first flight with an above-average sized stack that he leveraged into a lead by nights end, but it was not an easy journey as he had a few hiccups en route to the end of day lead. He amassed a top-stack early on Day 2 and he rode that momentum until the last level of the night before finding any real trouble.

Angel Lopez doubled through Jackson, taking over half of his stack in the process of doing so. Jackson had the last laugh between the two though when he found pocket aces versus the queens of Lopez during the second last hand of the night. The aces held on for a complete double and Jackson once again was on top of the field, ending the day with a chip lead stack of 744,000.

Other notable stacks nearing that mark include Sean Thomson (709,000), Dien Le (692,000), Joseph Gambino (654,000), and Jon Borenstein all round out the top five moving onto Day 3.

Familiar faces to emerge from Day 2 with a stack are Carlos Guerrero (583,000), Michael Vela (579,000), Denise Pratt (573,000), Nick Palma (539,000), Matthew Holmquist (505,000), Joseph Reddick (497,000), Faisal Siddiqui (455,000), Paul Volpe (323,000), and Roland Israelashvili (256,000).

The 511 enties that showed up accumulated a total prize pool of $1,239,175 with the top 54 pulling in a min-cash worth $4,957 and the eventual winner will be taking home $308,556 for their efforts, along with a prestigious Borgata Trophy.

The remaining 60 players will be returning tomorrow November 20, at noon to battle it out until the official final table of six. At that point they will bring back the final six for the final day of the event, where a winner will be crowned, taking home the title along with all that cold hard cash.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be bringing all of the updates as the action unfolds so stay tuned.

A couple of big stacks have developed on Table 6.

Sumit Kumar has been sitting atop the counts for a while now, but David Jackson has been moved to his table and is also among the chip leaders. The rest of the players there are caught between these two big stacks, fighting for pots.

McKeehen Picking Up Small Pots

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Joe McKeehen
Joe McKeehen

On a flop of {k-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}, Roland Israelashvili checked it over to Joe McKeehen, who tossed in a baby blue (5,000). Israelashvili let it go and McKeehen took the pot.

McKeehen raised to 6,500 on the next hand and got no action, collecting the blinds and antes. He's up to about 280,000.

Israelashvili Retakes Lead

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Roland Israelashvili
Roland Israelashvili

Derek Sudell got all-in pre-flop for ~140,000 against Roland Israelashvili, who had him covered. Sudell's {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds} was in good shape for a double-up against Israelashvili's {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}.

The board didn't cooperate, however, as it came {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{9-Spades}{6-Hearts}{9-Clubs} and Israelashvili flopped a set, then rivered a full house to take the pot. He's playing about 400,000 now and once again in the chip lead.

Sudell hit the rail — he still has the option to re-enter, but no indication if he plans to or not.

Day 2 Entrant off to Great Start

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Matt Glantz
Matt Glantz

Matt Glantz entered this event today, skipping all the starting flights, and in 90 minutes has tripled his 40,000 starting stack up to 120,000.

No wonder he has more than $7.1 million in tournament earnings. The surprising thing is that he doesn't have a lot of hardware or titles. His best live cash of $862,837 came with first place in the 2009 EPT High Roller event. He has one WSOP Circuit ring and one Borgata non-Open Series win back in 2011 — only six firsts in 185 reported tournament cashes.

When it comes to bling versus bucks, Glantz lands firmly in the bucks column!
