Event #8: $340 Seniors NLH

Day 1 Started

Seniors Set to Start at 10 A.M.

Today's first trophy event is Event #8: $340 Seniors No Limit Hold'em and the starting bell will ring at an extra-early hour of 10 a.m. local time.

Players start with 20,000 chips and levels 1-15 are 30 minutes long; levels 16+ will be 40 minutes for the remainder of the tournament. This is a one-day event, so they’ll play until a winner is determined. The term ‘Seniors’ is a loosely-defined 50+, so there will be a lot of youthful-looking entrants.

In case any of our 50+ crowd decided to sleep in, they can still late register until the start of level 9 (about 2:30pm). This is also an unlimited re-entry event, so anyone who busts out before the close of registration can opt to fire another bullet, and another, and another, etc.

Here's a look at the structure:

Cards are in the air for the $340 Seniors NLH event, playing here in the back of the Poker Room.

Last Fall, the Seniors event drew 135 entries for a total prize pool of $39,285. After playing for about 14 hours, the final five players decided to call it a night and carve up the remaining prize pool based on ICM numbers.

Paul “Della” Dellauniversita was the chip leader and took first place and $7,422, along with his first Borgata Open trophy.

Of course we expect to see many of our regulars turn out for today's Seniors event, but we also have Event #9: $230 Deeper Stack NLH coming up at noon, which will split today's attendance on a busy football Sunday.

Andrew Klein
Andrew Klein

Andrew Klein has seven officially reported wins here at Borgata, putting him in elite company, tied for fourth-most wins at this locale.

Over the years he has won a Black Chip Bounty, Deepstacks Challenge, a couple of Deepest Stacks, Monster Stack, and NLH, and even the "Old School" NLH tournament. He's also quite accomplished at the Super Survivor format, with several scores in those events. His lifetime earnings have topped $456,000.

The one type of event Klein has not yet conquered is a Seniors event. Perhaps he can change that today.
