Return of the 2017 WPT BPO Champion

Since he won the 2017 BPO Championship event, along with more than $789,000, Guo Liang Chen has gone on to accumulate more than $1 million in reported tournament earnings. It was right here in this very room two years ago when a relatively unknown player bested a final table stacked with the likes of 2016 November Niner Cliff 'JohnnyBax' Josephy, Matt Parry, Jia Liu, Thomas Paul, and Greg Weber.

Following that huge six-figure score, he's notched a couple of other five-figure ones, including a runner-up finish earlier this year. He took 2nd place (out of 2,874 entries) and $78,716 in the February 2018 Parx Big Stax 300. That event was won by WPT Champions Club member Victor Ramdin.

Buzgon in the Mix

Dan Buzgon finished 5th in the last World Poker Tour event played here at Borgata, except his final table appearance took place in Las Vegas. He made the final six of the 2019 World Poker Tour Borgata Winter Poker Open Championship back in January, but the filming of the final table took place at the Luxor in Las Vegas a couple of months later.

In what was his third televised WPT final table appearance, Dan finished 5th for $202,942. His two previous WPT final tables resulted in a 3rd place ($335,433) in the 2011 WPT BPO Championship and a 4th place ($94,624) in the April 2012 WPT Jacksonville bestbet Open.

This summer, he cashed ten times at the World Series of Poker and his most recent cash last month pushed his career earnings past the $2.3 million mark.

Preis Straightens Out an Opponent

We happened upon the action with around 10,000 in the middle and a flop reading .

Sam Preis was in the under-the-gun position with all his chips, 17,300 to be exact, laid out in front of him. His opponent to the direct left was debating what to do and eventually called off for just over 10,000.

"I'm on a straight draw," Preis said before the cards were turned up.

Preis was behind but had plenty of outs. The turn wasn't one of them, but the river was as Preis made the queen-high straight to score an early elimination.

Marder Rivers the Nuts

Three players were looking at the turn with a board of and it was checked to Michael Marder on the button, who tossed in two blue chips (10,000). The big blind in Seat 4 called, then Seat 8 tanked for a bit before folding.

They were heads-up to the river, which was the and Seat 4 jammed for 7,700. Michael snap-called, having him covered, but not by much. The hands were tabled and Seat 4's had missed the open-ended straight-flush draw, but rivered a straight. Michael's had missed his flush draw as well, but caught the gutterball to river the nut straight.

Seat 4 headed for the exit while Michael collected his chips — he's up to 52,500 and more than double his starting stack.
