Who Will Make the Top Six to go to Las Vegas in April for the $3,500 WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open Championship Final Table?

WPT Champions Cup Trophy
WPT Champions Cup Trophy

Welcome to the final day of the $3,500 WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open Championship. Well, it’s not actually the final day but it is the last day of this tournament which will take place in the Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa as play will continue until there are six players remaining. The final six will battle it out for the wonderful first-place prize of $674,840 at the HyperX Esports Arena in Las Vegas at the Luxor on the live-streamed final table on April 1, 2020.

After claiming the Day 2 chip lead, Patrick Serda has also taken the Day 3 chip lead with 6,260,000 in chips which is worth a whopping 209 big blinds at the start of the day. He is followed in the chip counts by fellow Canadian Veerab Zakarian with 4,075,000 in chips. Brian Altman also finished on the podium late last night with 3,880,000 in chips. Other players who have bagged an above-average stack are Peter Vitantonio, Stephen Press, Paul Snead, Jesus Martinez, Derek Marmen, Jorge Confesor, and Bin Weng.

But there’s still loads of other players to take into account as 28 players return out of 1,290 entries with Samuel Taylor, Brandon Hall, Ari Engel, Donald Maloney, Nathan Russler, Matthew Waxman, James Anderson, and Sandeep Pulusani in the running too. All 28 players are guaranteed at least $19,886 but will all be eyeing up the pay jumps as each player gets sent to the rail.

When the players return at noon local time, they will play Level 24 which features a small blind of 15,000, big blind of 30,000, and a big blind ante of 30,000. Level duration will remain at 90 minutes each with a short break after every level. A dinner break is likely to take place after the fourth or fifth level of play but everything is subject to change.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be here in Atlantic City from the first card of the deck until it is known who will be going to Las Vegas in April, so keep following the updates right here!

Shvarts Falls in 28th Place

Level 24 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Grigoriy Shvarts
Grigoriy Shvarts

Michael Morton raised to 65,000 from under the gun and Grigoriy Shvarts shoved from the middle position for 835,000. Brandon Hall used a time extension on the button and then shoved too for around 1,500,000. The blinds quickly folded and so did Morton with some reluctance so the cards could go on their backs.

Grigoriy Shvarts: {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}
Brandon Hall: {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

The board ran out {q-Hearts}{5-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} for Hall to hit the flop for a set of queens to eliminate Shvarts in 28th place for $19,886.

Pulusani tabled {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts} and was racing against Confesor's [jshc]. The board came {7-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{3-Spades}{4-Hearts} and was in the wrong zip code for Pulusani, who whiffed and was eliminated and 27th place ($19,886).

Galazzo Goes in 25th Place

Level 24 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Joseph Galazzo
Joseph Galazzo

Patrick Serda raised to 75,000 from the cutoff and was called by joseph Galazzo and Samuel Taylor in the blinds.

The flop came {9-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{7-Clubs}, both Galazzo and Taylor checked to Serda who continued with a bet of 165,000 which only Galazzo called.

The turn brought them the {6-Spades}, Galazzo checked again and now Serda barreled a bet of 420,000 over the line. Galazzo used a time extension and then made the call.

The river completed the board with the {a-Clubs} Galazzo checked for the last time. Serda fired a bet of 1,900,000 over the line. Galazzo dived deep into the tank and used three time extenstion before making the call for his last 630,000 or so. Serda tabled {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} for the turned set of sixes and rivered full house. Galazzo looked dejected and showed he held {a-Spades}{5-Diamonds} for trip aces to be eliminated in 25th place.

Ari Engel Eliminated in 24th Place ($23,728)

Level 24 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Ari Engel
Ari Engel

Ari Engel raised from the middle position for 60,000 and action folded to Brian Altman in the big blind who three-bet. Engel responded with a four-bet, keeping some 5,000-value chips behind. Altman responded with a shove and Engel called for the 950,000 or so he had behind.

Ari Engel: {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}
Brian Altman: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

The flop came {q-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{k-Spades} to give Altman a set but it also gave Engel a flush draw.

The turn was the {6-Hearts} which didn't help Engel and neither did the {5-Hearts} on the river as Engel was sent to the payout desk to collect $23,728 for finishing in 24th place.

Michael Morton was all-in for his last 80,000 (fewer than 3 big blinds) against Brandon Hall, whose {j-Spades}{10-Spades} was actually behind Morton's {a-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}. The runout of {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} was just perfect for Hall, who rivered the king-high straight to scoop the pot.

Morton was sent to the rail in 23rd place ($23,728).

Stephen Press
Stephen Press

Stephen Press was under-the-gun and moved in for his last 555,000, getting called by Peter Vitantonio (hijack). Press tabled {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts} and discovered he was dominated by Vitantonio's {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}.

The runout of {k-Spades}{10-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{q-Spades} was too little, too late for Press. Vitantonio paired his kicker to take the pot with top/top.

Press hit the rail in 21st place, earning $23,728.

Paul Snead

Paul Snead moved in for roughly 1.3 million and got looked up by Bin Weng, who had him well covered and smothered with {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}. Snead's {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds} was drawing slim.

The cards fell {q-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{2-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} and were no help to Snead, who gathered his things and walked away. He'll collect $28,624 for 20th place.
