Day 1 of the 2018 Cash Game Festival London at Aspers Casino broke in the new year with a huge splash with tons of action and fun throughout the day and evening.

The day peaked with 15 tables running with many of them expected to run throughout the evening and into the morning. Games on the first day including no-limit hold'em, pot-limit Omaha and Sviten Special.

The festival began in the late afternoon with a welcome drinks ceremony with many players enjoying welcome drinks. However, many of the players couldn't wait for the official festival to begin with seven full tables already running before the ceremony.

Shortly after the welcome drinks ceremony began, the first televised feature table commenced with players battling it out in £2/£5 no-limit hold'em.

David Newson was the winner at the early feature table, commentated by Ryan "Metalface" Davey, after notching up £1,424 in profit or 284.8 big blinds. The amount of big blinds won is important since the person that wins the most big blinds during any feature table during the festival will walk away with a commemorative trophy and a hospitality package to the next Cash Game Festival.

The stakes stayed the same for the late feature table but the game changed to pot-limit Omaha featuring Jon Kyte, James Simms and Terry Jordon. Additionally, the action got much wilder.

However, it wasn't a member of this trio to perform the best. That honor belonged to Sam Miller who won £5,775 or 1,155 big blinds. This was all thanks to a huge pot when he won a huge pot of almost £14,000 against Kyte.

Players with the hospitality package will be enjoying an outing to a trampoline park in the early afternoon before heading back to the poker room for action at the tables.

Many other players will likely be enjoying the delights of British capital or getting into the action early in the day. As will be the case every day during the festival, live streaming is scheduled at lower stakes at 6:00 p.m. and higher stakes at 9:00 p.m. local time. You can watch all the action on the Cash Game Festival Twitch channel.

Stay tuned at PokerNews for the next four days as we report some of the hottest action at the Cash Game Festival London.

The £2/£5 pot-limit Omaha feature table just kicked off headlined by action-player

While many of the other players at the table are familiar to Cash Game Festival fans, one that will be a new face is American Arie Juliusburger in Seat 1. Juliusburger is not only making his first Cash Game Festival feature table experience but also playing in front of the lights and camera in general for the first time.

Local action player Terry Jordon, in Seat 2. Jordon is known for his charisma and for his dislike of folding any hand preflop regardless of the bets in front of him. The last Cash Game Festival he appeared multiple times with friend William Kassouf which led to a bit of a social media battle between the duo.

Lithuania's Ernestas Romeika, in Seat 3, isn't what we would classify as a tour veteran, however, he is now making back to back stops after also appearing at the feature table during the last Cash Game Festival in Tallinn in November.

Cash Game Festival regular James Simms is now making his fourth Cash Game Festival appearance. This is the third time Simms is visiting the festival at Aspers Casino which is nearby where he lives. This doesn't mean he isn't willing to travel as he also took a poker vacation to Sunny Beach, Bulgaria when the Cash Game Festival visited Platinum Casino in August.

Norway's Jon Kyte, in Seat 5, will go down in history as the first-ever Cash Game Festival trophy winner when he snagged on the last time the festival was in London in September. More recently he had hundreds of thousands of reasons to celebrate after lifting the trophy in the partypoker Nordic Poker Championships after winning the event for €240,000. He shared with PokerNews that he has his eyes on another trophy for his collection during this festival.

Poland's Bartosz Konopacki, in Seat 6, has been playing poker for four years and is now making his first Cash Game Festival feature table appearance.

Local player Parvis Tafreshi, in Seat 7, is also making his first feature table appearance. He shared he likes any starting hand in it that includes tens.

Sam Miller, in Seat 8 looks like he has been playing poker for a while, but shared that he has been only been playing for six months. He had his poker face on so we are not sure if we are being bluffed or not. He also shared that being on the feature table today is to date his best poker achievement.

Ryan "Metalface" Davey will once again be handling the play by play with guest commentators popping in and out of the booth. You can check out the action by clicking on the Live Stream tab in our coverage or by heading to the Cash Game Festival Twitch channel where you can also join in the chat.

Big Hands Early on at the Feature Table

Perry Smith

The feature table is full of action early on. On the very first hand, Perry Smith raises from under the gun with {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} to £35. Gang Wang calls from the button with {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs} before Manoj Mohindra with {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts} fired out a three-bet to £105 from the small blind.

Tony Blanchandin woke up with {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts} in the big blind and four-bet to £260 before Smith five-bet jammed the rest of his £1,000 stack. Wang quickly folded and Mohindra went into the tank before he called. Blanchandin also quickly folded and Smith doubled up early on after the board ran out blanks for his opponent.

Ryan Mullarkey Headlines First Feature Table

Ryan Mullarkey

The first feature table of the first Cash Game Festival of the year has just kicked off with stakes at £2/£5 no-limit hold'em. Cash Game Festival regular Ryan Davey will be handling the commentary throughout most of the festival with many guests expected throughout the stream.

You can check out the action by clicking on the Live Stream tab in our coverage or by heading to the Cash Game Festival Twitch channel where you can also join in the chat.

The table is full of familiar faces and new ones headlined by Cash Game Festival regular Ryan Mullarkey in Seat 6. Mullarkey, who learned about the Cash Game Festival during a previous stop in London traveled to as many stops as he could last year including to Gibraltar, Dublin and Tallinn.

David Newson, in Seat 1, is one of the players making his first Cash Game Festival visit to the feature table. He has been playing poker for almost two decades and shared his favorite hand is queen-jack suited.

China's Gang Wang, in Seat 2, always loves the Cash Game Festival whenever it visited Aspers Casino in London. Even though his English is limited, it is rare not to see Wang visibly enjoy himself at the tables.

Manoj Mohindra, in Seat 3, also has appeared at the feature table in the past at the Cash Game Festival when it has visited London. His favorite hand is pocket deuces and looks at poker as a social game.

French poker pro Tony Blanchandin is in Seat 4. We may see him at bigger stakes later in the festival as he shared he has played as high as €25/€50 no-limit hold'em online.

Murray MacInnes, in Seat 5, shared with PokerNews his favorite poker moment and about his poker style.

My favorite poker moment is winning a £1,600 cash pot with quads online against two of our Scandinavian relatives
in a £1.50/£3 cash game," said Macinnes. I also have cashed in a few tournaments, the most recent being taking 37th place in a local Aspers tournament for £800. I usually play cash at Aspers on a Saturday and always go home up. I'm not a bingo player. I'm just slow and steady like the tortoise and enjoy the company.

Craig Sweden, in Seat 7, loves both poker tournaments and cash games. He has made multiple EPT final tables and has over $250,000 in live tournament cashes as tracked by The Hendon Mob.

Perry Smith rounds off the action in Seat 8. This is his second Cash Game Festival with his previous visit taking place the last time the festival visited the British capital in September.
