Short-stacked Jonathan Brown moved all in preflop and was called by David Diaz to put him at risk.
Jonathan Brown: A♣10♣8♠3♠
David Diaz: A♥J♣10♦9♦
The flop of 5♦2♠10♥ gave both players the same hand with ace-ten, but the turn 9♠ gave Diaz the lead with two pair. Only a four on the river could save Brown with a straight, but it was the 3♥ to send him out in 14th place while Diaz collected the pot.
After a preflop betting war, Ethan Bennett and George Abi-Zeid got all of their chips into the middle, with Bennett at risk.
Ethan Bennett: A♠K♣Q♠4♠
George Abi-Zeid: A♦K♥Q♦9♥
The flop of A♥J♣7♣ gave them both the same pair with ace-king, but the runout of 3♣9♣ gave Abi-Zeid two pair on the river to send Bennett out in 13th place.
After a preflop betting bonanza, George Abi-Zeid got it all in against John Compton who had him covered.
George Abi-Zeid: AxAxQx7x
John Compton: K♥K♣10♣9♦
Abi-Zeid was in the lead with his aces, but the runout was not his friend as it came 6♥9♥7♠8♠7♦ to give Compton a straight on the turn to eliminate him in 11th place.
On the last hand before the break, a heads-up flop read 9♦K♠5♦ when John Compton checked, Vladyslav Shovkovyi bet the pot of 320,000 and Compton check-jammed for over a million.
Shovkovyi made the call to put himself at risk and the two players tabled their hands in the largest pot of the tournament.
Vladyslav Shovkovyi: A♥K♦7♥4♦
John Compton: A♣K♣J♥9♥
Compton was in the lead with his top two pair, but Shovkovyi could hit an ace to chop or a diamond to win. The Q♣ on the turn changed nothing but the 6♦ smacked down on the river to give him the flush to claim this monster pot.
With this win, Shovkovyi dethrones Compton as the chip leader and Compton himself is now the shortest stack in the room.
