Carlos Esquerdo

Yasser Ibrahim in the big blind and heads-up on a flop of 3QK when he called a bet of 500 from the cutoff.

The turn came the 2 and the cutoff bet another 2,200. Ibrahim called and both players checked the K river. Ibrahim turned over Q10 for two pair and his opponent mucked.

A few hands later at this table, a player in the big blind bet 2,000 on a board of 34A22 before Carlos Esquerdo, in the cutoff, raised to 8,500.

The big blind called and Esquerdo showed A2 for a rivered full house. His opponent angrily slammed down Q10 for a no-good flush as Esquerdo took the big pot.

Another Race to the Money Begins on Day 1b of the EAPT Barcelona Main Event

EAPT Trophy
EAPT Trophy

A new crop of hopefuls will look to make their way into the money when Day 1b of the EAPT Barcelona €560 Main Event begins at noon local time.

The first starting flight saw 19 players out of 124 total entries survive to make Day 2. The man everyone is chasing is Fernando Santa Maria, who built up a massive stack of 731,000, nearly 200,000 more than his closest challenger. Harcharan Dogra (567,000), Jordi Mataix (470,000), Andre Carvalho (394,000), and Diogo Ferreira (377,000) also set a benchmark for players today to follow as they try to join them tomorrow.

Players on Day 1b begin with a 40,000 starting stack. The action consists of 40-minute levels, with a 15-minute break every three levels and a 40-minute dinner break at the end of Level 9. Late registration for this flight closes at the end of the dinner break, which should come around 7 p.m. Play will conclude for the night once 15 percent of the field remains, which yesterday took until the 17th level.

There are still two more opportunities to join the field after this flight. Day 1c begins at 6 p.m. with 30-minute levels, while a turbo Day 1d flight starts tomorrow at 11 a.m. with 20-minute levels. All remaining players from the four starting flights will combine for Day 2 at 6 p.m. tomorrow.

Players can also still join the EAPT last longer competition. The last player standing in the tournament wearing an EAPT patch will earn a free seat into the next festival in Bucharest in November. Players can also post a photo of the patch on Instagram with the hashtag #eapokertour and be entered into a drawing to win a package.

If Day 1a was any indication, it will be a tough road to make it through today. PokerNews will be providing live updates as the action continues here at Casino Barcelona.
