With 130,000 in the middle, on a flop of Q♦8♣2♣, Tristan Chaplin moved all in for 243,000. Keith Johnson asked for a count and made the call.
Tristan Chaplin: K♣7♣
Keith Johnson: Q♥J♥
Johnson was ahead with a pair of ladies, but Chaplain had a flush draw. The 2♦ paired the turn which proved to be consequential as the Q♣ completed the board to give Johnson a boat that sunk Chaplin's no-good flush. Chaplin headed to the exit and intends to play Day 1d on Saturday.
Shortly after Chaplin's elimination, Martin Olali also exited the competition.
With only 26 players remaining, only eight more eliminations are required to reach the target of 18 players to bag and tag this evening.
Meanwhile, late registration has closed for Day 1b, with 97 players getting involved in the second flight of the day. Currently 71 players are still battling to make it to Day 2.
Mandip Kang bet 35,000 from the small blind and was met with a raise from Roberto Mantu to 110,000. Kang responded with a shove for 267,000 and was called quickly from Mantu.
Mandip Kang: A♣Q♣
Roberto Mantu: A♦K♣
A cooler situation with Mantu dominating with Big Slick, but the runout of A♠10♣7♣Q♠7♠ gave Kang top two pair to secure a vital double-up
After a titanic tussle with Gajanthan Kamalanathan, Jonathan Hanley has put clear daylight between himself and the rest of the field.
With over 400,000 in the pot on a completed board of A♦A♣4♣K♦6♣, Kamalanathan bet 175,000 and was shoved on by Hanley which put Kamalanathan at risk for a further 200,000 chips. After utilizing all of his time bank Kamalanathan made the call and was dismayed to see Hanley making a boat with K♣K♠ which beat his trips as he held A♥Q♦.
Hanley now has 11 starting stacks to his name and is putting himself in contention for a massive score.
With 260,000 in the middle, three players saw a completed board of 8♠4♣2♦5♥9♣. Jeremy MacGhilles in the big blind which got a fold from Chris Da-Silva in the hijack.
Trevor Pearson on the button made the call and tabled J♣J♦ which bettered MacGhilles Q♦8♥ and Pearson scooped in the pot.
