Mizzi Busts Chiu

Sorel Mizzi and David Chiu got all the money in on the {7-Spades}{5-Clubs}{2-Spades} flop. Mizzi held the {K-Spades}{9-Spades} and Chiu the {6-Spades}{5-Spades}. Chiu was the shorter-stacked player and at risk in the hand.

The turn brought the {7-Clubs} and the river landed with the {K-Clubs}. On the river, Mizzi picked up a better two pair and was able to win the hand, moving over the 200,000-mark in the process.. Chiu was eliminated.

All Together Now

Level 5 : 400/800, 100 ante

There were officially 137 entrants in the inauguaral Epic Poker League Event and we are now down to our final 84. That means that they are all in one room and at one of our final 14 tables.

Our tournament director, Matt Savage, just told the players that the prizepool will be announced shortly but could tell them already that they would be paying 18 places. As soon as it's available, we will get that prizepool information to you.

Cantu Needs The River

From the button, Brandon Cantu opened the pot with a raise to 2,400. Sean Getzwiller was next to act and raised to 7,600. The player in the big blind folded before Cantu moved all in for 28,700. After some thought, Getzwiller made the call to put Cantu at risk.

Cantu: {q-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Getzwiller: {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}

The board ran out {7-Hearts}{2-Spades}{3-Hearts}{8-Spades}{q-Hearts} which spiked the pot to Cantu right on the last card. Getzwiller could only shake his head as Cantu sheepishly raked in the pot. Getzwiller still has above the starting stack though with 55,000.

Mortensen Busts In Massive Pot

We caught the action on a board reading {2-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{a-Hearts}. The full turn action is unknown but eventually Eugene Katchalov forced Carlos Mortensen to put in his remaining stack that still stood at over 80,000 on the turn. Mortensen decided to call and tabled {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs} for top pair and the nut flush draw. However, Katchalov was in good shape with a set of queens and held on when the {9-Spades} hit the river.

That hand ends Mortensen's run while Katchalov jumps up to the top of the leaderboard with 210,000.

Filippi Doubles Through Papola

Amnon Filippi got his final 14,000 all in with {a-Clubs}{j-Spades} against the {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} of Jeff Papola. The flop was {10-Spades}{8-Clubs}{8-Hearts} which gave Filippi some extra outs. The {k-Spades} turn gave him even more out to the point that any card above a nine would keep Filippi alive. The {q-Clubs} gave Filippi broadway and crushed Papola down to only 17,000.

Failla Out

Level 5 : 400/800, 100 ante

Will Failla was all in with {a-Spades}{7-Diamonds} against the {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts} of Hafiz Khan. The first four cards of {9-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{2-Spades}{8-Hearts} kept Failla in the lead and it appeared to be a good chance for him to double up. However, the {q-Clubs} changed the tides and sent him to the rail.

Khan raked in the pot and chipped up to 46,000.
