Silva Not Heading for Gold Right Now

Joao Silva has also been heading south in the land of chip counts - he's down to 300,000 or so after a series of small pots failed to go his way.

Most recently, he opened for 60,000 and got a call from Pierre Neuville on the cutoff. He continuation-bet 70,000 on the {5-Clubs} {4-Spades} {10-Spades} flop, which Neuville called. Come the {4-Clubs} turn he checked, and when Neuville made it 125,000 to go, Silva gave it up.

Abecassis Drops in Chip Counts, Out of Sight

Michel Abecassis raised to 60,000 from the button and Pierre Neuville called from the small blind. They saw a {3-Hearts} {3-Spades} {K-Hearts} flop. Both players checked.

Come the {2-Hearts} turn, and Neuville bet out 65,000. Abecassis called, and they proceeded.

The river was the {2-Clubs} and Neuville now bet out 125,000. Abecassis, down to his last 300,000 or so. disappeared into the tank. He must have got lost in there, as it was a good five minutes before Neuville called the clock and Abecassis insta-folded. He stalked off, possibly to throw up in the bathroom.

Franklin Can't Move Matias

Under the gun, Ryan Franklin came in with a raise to 55,000. Antonio Matias was the only man who wanted to play, putting in the call with position to see a flop.

The dealer ran out the first three cards: {K-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} {3-Spades}. Franklin fired a healthy bet of 105,000, and Matias quickly began stacking out a raise. He made it 250,000 straight, and the decision was back on the 18-year-old. After a long pause, Franklin sat still as he quietly announced, "Reraise." He counted out another 550,000 and added them to the pot for a total bet of 655,000. Matias didn't waste too much time calling.

The turn card came the {3-Hearts} to put trips on board. Franklin sat absolutely motionless for what felt like an eternity before he tapped the table. Matias immediately announced an all in, and Franklin couldn't have mucked any faster.

The big pot goes to the big stack, and he's increased his chip lead significantly. Franklin, on the other hand, has just squandered half of his chip stack in one fell swoop.

Matias - 3,450,000
Franklin - 735,000

Updated Chip Counts

Ryan Franklin - 1,450,000
Jan Skampa - 1,075,000
Jeff Sarwer - 2,150,000
Antonio Matias - 2,725,000
Joao Silva - 490,000
Michel Abecassis - 422,000
Pierre Neuville - 880,000

One Raise Enough for Sarwer

Pierre Neuville opened the pot to 62,000 from middle position, and Jeff Sarwer made the call from the button. The two men went heads up to a flop that brought {10-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} {7-Clubs}.

Neuville continued out with a bet of 95,000, drawing a long stare from Sawer. After about a minute, Jeff made a raise to 215,000. Pierre spent another couple minutes debating his play, occasionally looking like he wanted to at least call the bet. In the end, though, he passed his cards back to the dealer, sending the pot over to Sarwer.

Sarwer Picks One Up

Jeff Sarwer raised to 65,000 under the gun and got looked up by both Pierre Neuville on the button and Jan Skampa in the big blind.

Skampa checked the {7-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} flop, and then both he and Neuville laid it down to a 135,000 bet from Sarwer.

No Payoff for Abecassis

Antonio Matias attempted to raise to 44,000, before being informed that the minimum raise was 48,000. He dropped the extra 4,000 in the middle.

It folded to Michel Abecassis in the small blind, who quietly announced all in for another 348,000. The bog blind passed, and after a while so did Matias, flashing the {A-Spades} as he did so.

Matias Wins Raising War

Jan Skampa raised to 56,000, only for Jeff Sarwer to his immediate left to make it 135,000 to go. On his immediate left, though, Antonio Matias pushed in a stack of orange 25,000-denomination chips, which promptly fell over. When the dealer stacked the chips back up, it became apparent that the four-bet totaled 500,000. Skampa folded quickly, and Sarwer soon followed with a sigh of, "Kings or aces?" to Matias.

Andrei Vlasenko Eliminated in 8th Place (€31,234)

Andrei Vlasenko - 8th Place
Andrei Vlasenko - 8th Place
First in from the cutoff seat, Ryan Franklin made a raise to 55,000. Antonio Matias quickly made the call from the small blind, but Andrei Vlasenko took a pause in the big. After about 30 seconds of sitting like a statue, he grabbed his remaining 350,000 chips and shoved them across the line. Franklin then announced a re-raise all in himself, and that was enough to eventually fold Matias, though reluctantly. With Vlasenko at risk, the cards were on their backs.

Showdown
Vlasenko: {9-Hearts} {9-Diamonds}
Franklin: {10-Hearts} {10-Spades}

The flop was pretty dry for the at-risk player as it came out {Q-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds}. The {J-Spades} on the turn left Vlasenko drawing to just two outs, and the {6-Hearts} on the river is, indeed, not a nine when viewed right-side-up. Unable to improve his underdog nines, Andrei Vlasenko shook hands with his opponents and made his way out the door to a big ovation. His 8th-place showing is good for more than €30,000.
