Former Chip Leader in Trouble

How the mighty have fallen.

Marco della Tommasina, at one point yesterday a gigantic chip leader, has been reduced to around 30,000. Most recently he shoved it all in to a raise from online qualifier Hugo Felix, who eventually passed.

Sanchez Steams Ahead

Cheerful Spanish micro-qualifier Jesus "Tiger" (that's what it says on the back of his shirt) Sanchez is on fire - he's up to 250,000 after taking another hefty pot off of chip leader Matthew Nieberg.

Sanchez raised to 4,100 preflop and Nieberg made ot 11,200. Call. They saw a {6-?} {6-?} {J-?} flop and Sanchez checked. Nieberg tried it on for 14,000 - but folded when Sanchez check-raised to 45,000. Nieberg folded.

"I told you twice already, you've got to respect me!" said Sanchez as he triumphantly tabled {8-?} {10-?} offsuit.

Sanchez - 250,000
Nieberg - 315,000

Sousa's the Loser

Ricardo Sousa limped under the gun, and with small blind Stefan Mattsson and big blind Ross Boatman coming along for the ride, they saw a {6-Clubs} {7-Spades} {9-Hearts} flop. They checked it round.

Come the {3-Hearts} turn Mattsson bet out 3,020. Boatman passed, but a giggling Sousa called.

They found themselves looking at a {9-Diamonds} river and Mattsson checked. "Do you have a nine?" asked a grinning Sousa. "What do you have?" came Mattsson's response. "Are you trapping with a nine?" Sousa tried again, and this time Mattsson said nothing. Sousa bet 4,000 and after a moment Mattsson called.

He didn't have a nine - but his {Q-Spades} {7-Hearts} was good enough to beat Sousa's mere {Q-Hearts} {J-Hearts}.

Sousa dips to 63,000.

No Quads This Time for Levi

Nicolas "Hat Pimp" Levi is down to 85,000 after calling a bet of around 10,000 from Tome Moreira on a {10-Spades} {5-Spades} {7-Clubs} flop, and then another bet of 20,000 on the {3-Diamonds} river. They both checked the {8-Clubs} turn and Moreira flipped {A-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} for not much - nevertheless Levi couldn't beat it, and he mucked.

Deeb v. Sarwer

Shaun Deeb and Jeff Sarwer are sitting together again, as they did for a day during EPT Warsaw a few weeks ago. So it's safe to say they're familiar with each other. And after this last pot, that's even more true.

On a turned board showing {7-Hearts} {K-Clubs} {4-Hearts} {4-Clubs}, the two men had already built a pot of about 50,000. Sarwer checked, and Deeb fired a bet of 22,300. Sarwer then stuck in a check-raise to 45,000, and Deeb went into the tank for several minutes. He eventually took off his shades to get a better look, and, after several more minutes, he called.

The river came the {4-Spades}, putting trips on board. Sarwer knocked the table this time, and Deeb thought it over for another several minutes. He eventually checked behind, and Sarwer tabled {7-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds}. "Just a seven," he said, unsure. It was good though; Deeb mucked his hand with a frown, slipping down to about 60,000. Sarwer, on the other hand, seems to have just pipped the 200,000-chip mark with that pot.

Losing Karma

Claudio Coelho, Manuel Cecilia and Dominykas Karmazinas all managed to make it to the river of an {8-Diamonds} {5-Clubs} {4-Clubs} {A-Spades} {9-Spades} board, at which point Coelho bet out 17,000. Cecilia thought about it and eventually called; Karmazinas folded with a sigh of frustration that suggested he's had a very unhappy couple of levels.

Coelho and Cecilia both flipped {A-?} {Q-?} and chopped it up. Karmazinas continued to huff and puff.

Black is Back

Andy Black and Ruben Visser have been engaged in good-natured banter all day, but their stacks have been moving in opposite directions since play began.

Down to his last 25,800 chips, Black shoved them in under the gun. Two seats over, Visser asked for a count before making the call. The table folded out of the way, and it was heads up for Black's tournament life.

Showdown
Black: {10-Diamonds} {10-Clubs}
Visser: {J-Spades} {J-Hearts}

The flop was both excellent and dreadful for the at-risk Black, coming {7-Hearts} {5-Hearts} {10-Hearts}. He'd flopped his set, but Visser pointed to his jack of hearts as he was now drawing live to the flush. That was no longer the case after the turn brought the {10-Spades}, filling in Black's quads and securing his double up. He's back up around 54,800 and back to smiling.
