Van Til's Raise-and-Take

Not Annette
Not Annette
Annette Obrestad opened to 750 from middle position, and she found calls from Johan van Til and small blind Dominykas Karmazinas. Three-handed then, the flop came out {A-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} {9-Clubs}. Obrestad continued out with a bet of 1,300, and van Til raised it up to 3,750. Karmazinas quickly folded, and Annette slowly folded, and the pot goes to Johan, pushing him up over 40,000.

Obrestad is down to 21,000 after that hand.

Bichon Continues to Slide

Thomas Bichon came into the pot raising to 750, and Anton Wigg struggled to put the calling chips in the pot; the vigorous massage he's getting is causing his arms some problems. In any event, the chips were soon in the middle, and the dealer ran a flop of {K-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {K-Clubs}.

Bichon continued out with a bet of 1,125, and Wigg made the call. The turn was the {4-Diamonds}, and the betting action was unclear, possibly because your blogger was momentarily distracted by the attractive massage therapist. It looks like it went check-check. Apologies.

The river was the {10-Diamonds}, and Bichon fired out another 2,500 chips. Wigg instantly called this time, showing up {A-Clubs} {A-Hearts}. It appeared that Bichon flashed pocket queens as he mucked, and his stack has slipped down to 18,000.

Mattern Gets Lucky

There were three players in the hand and three cards on the board when we arrived.

Flop: {J-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} {6-Spades}

The first player bet out around 3,000 and the second player called. Arnaud Mattern, however, promptly raised to 7,500.

The original bettor swiftly passed, but the caller now announced all in for another 20,000 or so. "Hmm, big bet," mused Mattern. "Well, you'll get there sooner or later," his opponent countered. "The question, " Mattern continued, "Is whether it's sooner or later." He called.

Mattern: {A-Hearts} {J-Clubs} for top pair
Mr. All In: {J-Spades} {9-Spades} for two pair

Turn: bink! {A-Clubs}

River: {6-Diamonds}

"Sorry man," said a sheepish Mattern. Then, once his now-busted opponent had left, "That's why they sponsor me - 'cause I'm a luckbox."

Mr. Mattern is over the 100,000 mark.

Van Til Adds a Notch to His Belt

From early position, Johan van Til opened to 700, and he found three callers. The flop came {5-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} {10-Hearts}, and Annette Obrestad checked from the small blind. The big blind did so as well, and van Til continued out with a bet of 1,800. The fourth player in the pot, Charles Hopping moved all in for just about 10,000 total. That was enough to quickly fold both blinds, but van Til stuck the call into the pot without delay.

Showdown
van Til: {5-Diamonds} {5-Hearts}
Hopping: {A-Clubs} {Q-Hearts}

Van Til was well ahead with his set of fives, though the {J-Diamonds} on the turn gave Hopping a gutshot draw for the win. It wouldn't fill though; the {7-Spades} landed on the river to send him packing, and van Til moves himself up to about 46,000.

Hougaard Doubles Up

Brother of Jesper
Brother of Jesper
Lars "Brother Of Jesper" Hougaard has doubled up through the ever-impassive Jan Skampa.

It looked as though the chips went in on the {4-?} {6-?} {Q-?}, two-spades flop, Hougaard holding {A-?} {Q-?} for top pair, top kicker, and Skampa holding {K-Spades} {J-Spades} for a flush draw. Neither the {3-?} on the turn nor the {Q-?} on the river was a spade, and Hougaard doubled to around 40,000. Skampa is not any trouble, though - he remains on a very healthy 65,000.

193 Runners in the House

Actually, there were 193 runners. That's the number on the board right now for Day 1a entrants, so barring the odd clerical error somewhere along the line, that's how many players turned up for Day 1a. Of those 193, 168 remain at this time.

Martin Came, Martin Wendt

There was an initial raise to 800 before Martin Wendt made it 2,050 from the cutoff. The button and small blind folded, but the gentleman in the big blind rather unexpectedly announced all in for around 23,000. The original raiser folded instantly with a giggle.

"That is good play," said Wendt. He folded too, and his big blind opponent declined to show.

Wendt is still very comfortable, though, on 55,000.
