Welcome Back!

We're back inside the cozy confines of the Casino Copenhagen, and we're just about set for Day 2!

Our starting field of 423 has been reduced to 243 as this second day dawns, and we're gearing up for what figures to be an exciting six levels of cards.

Day 1a top dog Andrew Pantling is the man everyone's chasing today, but he's not exactly alone at the top. Danger lurks in the form of Sebastian Ruthenberg, Peter Eastgate, Juha Helppi, and a whole school of other sharks who are circling the waters just beneath Pantlings shadow.

We'll be off and running in just a few minutes, so don't wander too far. The shuffle up and deal is nigh!

Level: 9

Blinds: 500/1,000

Ante: 100

Go, Go, Go!

We're off! The plan is to play six 75-minute levels with a dinner break after level four. Those plans are subject to change, of course.

Let's get down to the business at hand.

Soren! Soren!

To those who were here two years ago, the bellows of, "SOREN! SOREN!!!" echoing across the floor can mean only one thing - Soren Jensen, the eccentric and excitable local who famously came second in 2008 to Tim Vance has doubled up.

Woefully his brother was not here so there are no hilarious kissing shenanigans to report, but nevertheless Jensen is up to over 20,000.

Elk Tracks

Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier is not enjoying a productive start to his day. Stopping by his table, we caught up with him involved in a pot with Patrik Kaltrud. With fourth street out, the board showed {2-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} {5-Diamonds}. After a Kaltrud check, ElkY fired out 9,300 into a pot of about 12,000. His opponent didn't waste any time calling.

The river came the {8-Hearts}, and Kaltrud checked again. The Elk grimaced a bit and checked behind. Kaltrud was first to show, turning up {J-Diamonds} {J-Hearts}. ElkY flashed his barely-pipped {10-Spades} {10-Diamonds} as he flung his cards into the muck.

On the next hand, Grospellier opened the pot to 2,300 from middle position, and Stefan Mattsson three-bet him to 5,700 from the button. ElkY called, and the two men saw a flop of {J-Hearts} {7-Spades} {J-Spades}. Mattsson continued out with a bet of 6,200 which ElkY called, and they check-checked the {K-Diamonds} on the turn. The river was the raggy {3-Hearts}, and ElkY passed again. Mr. Mattsson figured 16,000 was the right amount for a river bet, and it was indeed good enough to win him the pot after a few sideways looks from the man across the felt.

ElkY's slipped back to about 81,000 here in the early going.

Big Stacks Get Bigger, Then Get Smaller

Overnight big stack Sebastian Ruthenberg has been off to a mixed start.

First we witnessed him pick up a 28,000 pot when Thomas Quaade (cutoff) checked to him on the turn of a {4-Hearts} {6-Hearts} {8-Clubs} {K-Hearts} board. Ruthenberg bet 17,000 and after a few moments' uncomfortable contemplation, Quaade folded.

A few hands later, though, and Ruthenberg had to give some of those chips back to the table.

Jonas Mathiasen opened for 2,700 in early position and it folded around to Ruthenberg in the hijack who made it 7,200. Stefan Raffey in the cutoff, however, made it 17,500 to go. Mathiasen quickly got out of the way, and after a moment so did Ruthenberg. His expression remained impassive throughout.

Table of Immediate and Painful Death

Oh, by the way. Check out how Table 30 sets up:

Seat 4: Jan Skampa
Seat 5: Alfio Battisti
Seat 8: Johnny Lodden
Seat 9: Dario Minieri

So far, there's a good bit of light-hearted table chatter going on over there, but we're standing by and anxiously awaiting the fireworks display.

Graceful in Victory

Richard Grace, who finished up yesterday as one of our big stacks, has been continuing with the aggression that got him to the top of the chip count pops.

Last we saw, Grace raised to 2,500 under the gun and got calls from both Alessandro Lusso in the hijack and Frederik Brink in the big blind.

They saw a {K-Hearts} {4-Spades} {4-Clubs} flop and Brink checked. With the absolute minimum of fuss, Grace bet 6,500, and with the absolute minimum of delay both his opponents folded.
