Well you don't see this everyday. Thomas Holm was all in preflop with against Jeff "jeff710" Hakim's , standard so far.
The flop was even worse for Holm as it ran out , leaving him just one out to keep his tournament life alive. Alas, the unlikely hit the turn and the table erupted in shock. Miraculously, the fell on the river and everyone around the table let out a collective "Oh My God!" in various languages.
Hakim took the pot with quad aces and upped his stack to 144,000.
Dominik Grafl raised in mid position and Mario Puccini called on the button, only for Zach Hall, sadly without his umbrella hat today, to shove for a little under 30,000 from the small blind. Grafl got out of the way but Puccini called and they were on their backs.
Hall:
Puccini:
Board: a no-messing
Hall doubled up to around 60,000; Puccini was left with shrapnel.
We walked up to this pot on the turn with the board showing and a pot of about 45,000 already heaped in the middle of the table. Joining the action live, we saw Marine Labernardie move all in for 60,200 total. Her opponent was Janko Medja, and he instantly called with the covering stack, putting a huge pot up for grabs.
Showdown
Labernardie:
Medja:
It was a disastrous turn card for the lady as her opponent had filled up, leaving her dead to two outs.
Oh, but two outs are just plenty sometimes. The ripped right off on the river, giving Labernardie the bigger full house and the sizable double up. She's all the way up to about 165,000 after that timely nine ball saved her tournament life.
We arrived just in time to see an enormous three-way all in showdown.
Flop:
Stefan Fuchs: for an overpair
Jorn Walthaus: for two pair
Johannes Strassmann: for a set
Turn:
River:
Strassmann covered the both of them, and consequently Walthaus and Fuchs headed for the door. Strassmann, however, looks set to have a very good day - he started with 135,000, and now he's got 250,000.
We arrived at Team PokerStars Pro Alex Kravchenko's table in time to see him make a call for a significant amount of his chips.
He had put 22,500 into the pot and his opponent, Florian Bussman, had moved all in for 100,500. Kravchenko thought it over for a few minutes and made the call with , racing against Bussman's .
The board ran out and Kravchenko is down to 27,000 after the lost race. Bussman surges to over 200,000.
A hissed, "YES!" alerted us to the fact that Tomas "How Do You Pronounce That" Brdaric had doubled up. He got his last in with pocket on a flop against Paul Valkenburg's straight draw, but the turn and river came blanks - and respectively - and he doubled to 50,000.
The 259 players have moved from the lobby to the tournament room, but there was no sign of TD Thomas Kremser as the start time approached. Just a few minutes after 2:00, the TV screens came to life, showing Kremser perched atop an Alp in full ski regalia. He gave the command to "Shuffle Up and Deal" over the airwaves, and the dealers have heeded his command.
With that, the cards are in the air, and Day 2 is a go!
