2010 EPT Snowfest Main Event

Day 2 Completed

Strassmann Flying on 747 As We Head Into Day 3

Strassmann - chip daddy
Strassmann - chip daddy
We started out today with 259 runners; we have finished up with somewhere in the region of 85. Leading the pack by a long way is Team PokerStars Pro Johannes Strassmann on a whopping 747,000 - his nearest rivals, Richard Toth and Maxim Lykov, trail behind on 584,500 and 575,000 respectively.

We have seen a veritable massacre of fine poker talent in the Alpine Palace ballroom today - Daniel Negreanu, Nacho Barbero, Luca Pagano and Arnaud Mattern were among those who failed to make the Day 3 grade - but we did not manage to make the money. When the players return tomorrow, we'll be extremely close to the bubble, with only 80 places paying out.

Aside from our big chip leaders, we have a smattering of famous faces still in the field. Alex Kravchenko, [Removed:197], Lex Veldhuis, Jesper Hougaard and Jim "Mr_BigQueso" Collopy all remain in the running, and there is everything to play for.

We'll be back at the tables at 2pm CET, so join us back here from then to see who makes the money, and who has to head home with nothing.

Marine Sunk

Back when Marine was still afloat
Back when Marine was still afloat
Marine Labernardie shoved to a raise from Richard Toth; he called and they were on their backs.

Labernardie: {J-Clubs} {J-Diamonds}
Toth: {A-Spades} {K-Diamonds}

Board: {K-Clubs} {3-Hearts} {5-Clubs} {7-Spades} {10-Hearts}

With a nod and a handshake, Labernardie took her leave, just missing out on Day 3 and the money. Toth meanwhile bumped his stack up to an extremely healthy 570,000.

Last Three Hands

The board still reads 87 and the clock has been stopped; they will be playing three more hands. We are hazarding a guess that we will not be making the money tonight.

Johannes Strassmann still looks to be big chip leader on just shy of 700,000; his nearest rivals right now appear to be fellow Team PokerStars Pro Richard Toth and EPT Kyiv winner Maxim Lykov.

Stacey Not Staying

Sebastien Bidinger raised and Dwayne Stacey shoved behind. In the big blind Michele Colaci reshoved, Bidinger got out of the way, and they were on their backs.

Colaci: {A-Hearts} {K-Clubs}
Stacey: {J-Clubs} {J-Diamonds}

Board: {K-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} {3-Spades} {9-Diamonds} {8-Hearts}

"F***!" shouted Stacey as the king came on the flop, and then again as he stormed off. Yikes.

So Good He Tried It Twice

As we witnessed earlier, [Removed:197] is a big fan of the raise/shove to a call and a reraise, but the people at his new table have no way of knowing that.

So it was that he opened for 8,500 in early position and Johannes Steindl made it 24,000 in the hijack. Josip Corluka called on the button, and duly [Removed:198] shoved. Both players quietly passed, and [Removed:198] moved up to a shade over 300,000.

Miller Still Grinding

Samuel Miller, who lost a chunky pot earlier after raising and then folding to a huge reraise from Vadim Markushevski, got his last in with {6-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} against David Wintersberger's pocket fours.

The flop ran out {9-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} {8-Spades} - good enough to double up Miller and keep him in the game.

Veldhuis Takes a Hit

Feder Los opened to 9,000 in middle position and and Sven Mol shoved from the cutoff for 93,700. Lex Veldhuis re-shoved from the button, getting the blinds and Los to fold. The hands were:

Veldhuis: {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}
Mol: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}

The board ran out {10-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} as Veldhuis' flopped set was run down by Mol's better flush.

Mol shoots up to 210,000 while Veldhuis drops to 180,000.

Bech & No Call

[Removed:6] raised to 9,000 in early position and Robert Binelli called in the hijack. Mark Bech, however, made it 29,000 from the big blind.

Frankenberger thought about it for a long time. "You show me?" he enquired of Bech. "He'll show me also," piped up Binelli. Frankenberger was giggling hysterically. "You show every time kings, ace-king, aces..." Eventually he folded. After a moment Binelli folded too.

Bech turned over {A-Spades} {A-Diamonds}.

"What is this??!!" said Frankenberger. "This is the first time I fold queens with like 20 big blinds left." And lied Binelli, "I folded kings."

Bech is up to 490,000.

Brecard Working Back Up

We caught a few sparse details of a hand involving Julien Brecard as we were watching two tables at once. Here's what we know.

Heads up, Brecard and an opponent saw a flop of {6-Clubs} {6-Spades} {J-Diamonds}. Brecard led out with a bet, and he would shrug and call a raise from his opponent. They'd both check the {A-Diamonds} on the turn, and the {A-Spades} double paired the board on fifth street. Brecard took the lead again, firing out 21,000. His opponent didn't waste much time calling, and Brecard tabled {K-Diamonds} {K-Spades}. It was good; his opponent slid his cards muckward, and Brecard moves his way back up to about 190,000.
