Luca-ing Good

We arrived at the table to find the board reading {7-Spades}{9-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} and Luca Pagano going all in from the button for 10,500 or roughly twice the pot. David Frieling (under the gun) looked rather irked by this, and sat for a long time just scratching his head and thinking about it. Eventually he pushed the call across the line, but mucked when Pagano turned over {5-Spades}{3-Spades} for the rivered straight.

If you recall yesterday Arnaud Mattern was rather short rather early - before in the course of two massive hands finding himself among the chip leaders and staying that way for the rest of the day. Pagano right now seems to be heading the same way - although he's still a little below his starting stack after that, he is not afraid to get his chips in and we would not be in the least bit surprised if he ends up making his seventh EPT final table this week.

Double Up for Negreanu

Heavy metal thunder
Heavy metal thunder

Only the second nuts for Pokerstars Team Pro Daniel Negreanu, as he flopped a good one for his {K-Spades}{Q-Spades} - {10-Spades}{2-Spades}{9-Clubs} - and turned a better - {3-Spades}. He did call a flop bet, it appears, but the major part of the stack (19,400, to be precise) crossed the line on the turn when his flush had rolled in. His opponent could only muster top pair dodgy kicker with {10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} and now the oft-massaged Pro is back in the game with a very playable stack.

Life's a Bichon

Thomas Bichon
Thomas Bichon

We didn't witness the hand, but we understand that Team PokerStars Pro Thomas Bichon is busto. It sounded as though he called a big river bluff which turned out not to be a bluff, and is now at liberty to spend the rest of the day by the pool. Which, by all accounts, is a sight that's pretty easy on the eye. So ladies, you know where you need to be this afternoon.

En Garde! Vegard Nygaard

The winner of the Nordic Promo Vegard Nygaard (finalists in this promotion won a trip to Monte Carlo, and Nygaard picked up a Pokerstars Passport to certain events this year) is building his stack apace - already up to 61k. A good chunk came courtesy of the lady on his left - he'd grown a pot of around 8k with her out of position, getting to the turn with the board {10-Spades}{7-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{8-Hearts}. Nygaard checked at this point, she bet 12k (just under half her remaining chips) and Nygaard calmly pushed in enough chips to cover her whole stack. Deep into the Consideration Timebank, and she really didn't look like folding was fun when she finally did it. He showed her {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} for the flopped set which appeared to provide some soothing, but she'd shortish now on 14k, while he's up amongst the Level 4 chip leaders.

It's A Lock! Neess is a Monster!

Carlos Mortensen opened preflop to 800 and Danny Neess made the call from the blinds to see a {9-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} {Q-Spades} flop. Neess check-called a bet of 1,500 before check-raising Mortensen's turn bet of 2,800 to 8,150 but the Spaniard clicked it back, making it 13,500. Neess called this 3-bet and then fired 13,000 more when the {8-Hearts} river came.

Mortensen now tanked for a full five minutes to the point of the clock being called, but he folded albeit with great reluctance. "El Matador" still has 25,000 but Neess must have upwards of about 80,000 now.

Blombed Out

Viktor Blom complete with his bright red hoodie won't be taking any more part in this tournament, he's just been knocked out.

Mix and Match Up - Andrulis vs. Marchese

Kristijonas Andrulis - stack dented but undaunted
Kristijonas Andrulis - stack dented but undaunted

The first tables have started to break and scatter their players to the four corners of the room (and some further - to the bar or beach). Kristijonas Andrulis has been moved to the early chip leader Jonathan Weekes' immediate left, and that table is looking fairly formidable all round. Just now Andrulis raised to 700 in early position and picked up Tom Marchese on the button and both blinds to a flop of {J-Spades}{A-Spades}{8-Spades}. Everyone checked to the button, and Marchese bet 1,250. Only Andrulis remained, and after a chip twiddly minute he raised to 3,200. Back to Marchese, and they seemed to engage in a think-off, with Marchese making the call but backing down and passing on the {2-Spades} turn when Andrulis bet out 4k, just under half his remaining chips.

Andrulis now: 19,000
Marchese: 66,000

Onwards & Breakwards

It's time to head outside for 15 lovely happy glorious minutes - or stay inside and type up chip counts, whatever floats your boat. We bet it would be really nice to be on a boat right now, in this blazing sun. That would be amazing. But we digress.

Chip leader right now seems to be Sorel Mizzi on around 100,000. Hopefully we'll be able to track him down and find out how that happened. Back soon.
