Big Hands; Small Pot (Still, Double for Carolyn Gray)

The UK's own Carolyn Gray, one of two female players still alive and kicking in this tournament, and in the money, had dwindled stackwise until the Red Alert light was on. But she's just doubled through, and in a rather spectacular way considering the whole pot was under 100k...

Andre Coimbra was her benefactor, holding {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}. Gray's {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts} hit the {8-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{K-Spades} flop a little better, however, and she actually improved with the river {K-Diamonds} to quads for some supernuts. Imagine the size that pot could have become with some more ammunition...

Coelho Up & Die

Re-Coelho
Re-Coelho

One of our early in-the-money exits is that of Team PokerStars Pro Nuno Coelho. He found himself in the big blind holding {k-}{9-} and facing nothing more threatening than a limp from Grzegorz Cichocki in the small blind. Coelho shoved, but Cichocki made the call with a dominating {a-}{9-} and following a collection of bricks on the board, the Portuguese Team Pro hit the rail. Former chip leader Cichocki increased his stack to 320,000 in the process.

Still, even though Coelho was the last member of Team PokerStars Pro: Portugal, the host nation still has many representatives in the field. We count eight at the moment, with PokerStars Team Online's Andre Coimbra still the biggest stack among them.

Luca For An Exit

Luca Pagano
Luca Pagano

Marco Leonzio opened preflop to 12,500 from UTG+1 and Luca Pagano made the call on the button.

The flop was {J-Clubs} {2-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} and Leonzio checked to the Team PokerStars Pro who bet 17,000. Leonzio responded with a fairly speedy check-raise all-in and Pagano rechecked his cards and made the call, turning over {A-Spades} {J-Spades}. Leonzio looked nonplussed, turning over {10-Clubs} {10-Hearts}, the {4-Diamonds} helped neither player but Leonzio yelped in delight when the {10-Diamonds} came on the river.

Pagano was crestfallen and began packing his bag muttering in Italian, the only discernible words we made out was "So sick!". Nevertheless Pagano cashes once more in an EPT, some of the most common words typed by the European press. The record now stands at 16.

Jump in My Calo

Young American Frank Calo had only just been moved to the table but wasted zero time in asserting himself.

William Thorson had opened for 10,500 in the hijack and Teddy Sheringham had re-popped to 30,000 in the cutoff, when Calo pushed in the small blind for 172,500. Thorson folded very quickly, and although it took Sheringham rather longer to give it up, give it up he did.

Calo - around 225,000
Sheringham - around 290,000

Leonzio Demonstrates the Art of 'Holding'

Having started the day with 80k, Italian Marco Leonzio is now over 300k and counting. He just busted Vyachoslav Goryachev after they saw a flop of {8-Spades}{K-Spades}{5-Clubs} after a raise of 20k preflop. Leonzio checked, Goryachev checked how much his opponent was playing (it was about 150k, same ballpark as him) and then moved all in. Leonzio called immediately with top pair - {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} - while Goryachev showed {A-Spades}{Q-Spades} for the nut flush draw. Leonzio looked comfortable as his tournament fate was decided on the {7-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} turn and river, while Goryachev sat still looking a bit stunned for a moment before taking his leave.

Shock Bustout as Lewis Felts Coimbra

Andre Coimbra: Death by preflop raise
Andre Coimbra: Death by preflop raise

Toby Lewis has rocketed up to over 700k after dispatching PokerStars Team Online Member - and leader from Day 1A all the way through - Andre Coimbra. The full whack, multiple hundred thousand, went in preflop. Coimbra raised to 10k, Lewis made it 23,500, Coimbra made it 60k, and then Lewis just jammed with {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}. The whole table looked shocked as Coimbra called, showed {A-Spades}{8-Clubs}, and lost as the board rolled out {Q-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{3-Clubs}.

The Premier Ship!

Looking at the river of a {J-Hearts} {9-Clubs} {6-Hearts} {9-Spades} {2-Clubs} board Teddy Sheringham moved all-in for 127,500 in a huge pot against William Thorson.

"What have you got there?" asked the Swede with seriously intensity in his eyes, but the former footballer said nothing.

Thorson then called and immediately mucked when he saw the bad news, Sheringham turned over {J-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} for the full house. Thorson has about 40,000 left, Sheringham on a huge and newsworthy 550,000.
