A huge preflop confrontation between Toby Lewis and the erstwhile chip leader Martin Jacobson saw the former's race the latter's . Lewis hit a set on the flop, but Jacobson made the broadway straight with the turn! All change yet again for the final dose of drama as the river paired the board with the giving Lewis a house, a double to 1.5 million, and the chip lead.
It's short stack shoving time (when isn't it time to shove your short stack?) and among the shorties getting shovey are Teddy Sheringham and Fabrizio Ascari. Both were witnessed shoving their big blinds to raises from Frederik Jensen and Rob Hollink respectively; neither push found a call and they picked up the blinds and antes.
By the by, the average stack right now is around 640,000 - that's around 40 big blinds. Ascari and Sheringham have around 20 big blinds apiece.
Following that huge hand with Toby Lewis, former chip monster Martin Jacobson has zero chance of getting any of those chips back as Lewis was moved to Table 1 the very next hand. First hand at his new table, his chips still in racks, we found Lewis adding even more to his stack in a blind-on-blind confrontation with Marton Czuczor. The board read and Lewis took down the 200,000 pot with a 44,000 bet on the river.
Tom Johansen raised preflop to 32k, picking up just Toby Lewis to a flop. Lewis checked, Johansen bet (it looked like 35 but could have been 45k) and Lewis quickly called. Both players checked the turn, but on the river Lewis bet out 62k. A minute or so passed before Johansen made the call, but mucked when he saw Lewis' .
Erik van den Berg opened for 32,000 in the cutoff and Fabrizio "Mad Italian" Ascari - who we reckon had a pretty heavy night last night, as he has been almost spookily quiet so far today - flat-called in the big blind. They saw a flop.
Flop:
Ascari and his baseball cap checked, van den Berg and his orange bobble hat bet 43,000, Ascari caled again, and they were at the turn.
Turn:
This time both players checked. River time.
River:
Ascari instantly announced all in, and after a moment he pushed his stack across the line. Van den Berg looked as though he wasn't really seriously considering it at any point, and folded in a matter of seconds.
Ascari - 500,000
Van den Berg - 450,000
By the by, there are only three hats remaining in this tournament, and curiously they are all at the same table - in addition to Ascari and van den Berg, Guillermo Garcia and his straw trilby are also seated there. Also, their table features the single largest pair of headphones in this tournament in the possession of Martin Jacobson - his white Beats by Dre are probably large enough to pass for a hat in some cultures.
A simple coinflip of a double up as Guillermo Garcia was all-in and doubled up with against Erik Van Den Berg's on a board.
Garcia had really been suffering before this point, everytime he opened he was getting 3-bet out of the pot, Martin Jacobson in particular picking on him. He's now back up to 500,000. Van Den Berg dropped to 160,000.
Konsta Vesterinen opened to 33,000 from the cutoff before Marton Czuczor 3-bet next to him to 80,000 from the button. Vesterinen then 4-bet to 213,000 and Czuczor moved all-in, Vesterinen called off the rest of his stack.
Vesterinen:
Czuczor:
The pot was worth well over a million in chips and the board came and Czuczor took the spoils, he's up to 1.2 million in chips.
Moving in over the top of a Martin Jacobson preflop raise, he found a caller (with ) for his . A mini fistpump when the hit the river, and another bite is taken from the start of day chip leader while the Dutch player stays alive.
Filipa Cerqueira, newly doubled up but still woefully short, open-shoved for around 200,000 in early position and it folded right around to Sergio Coutinho in the big blind who made the call. They turned their cards over and Coutinho, hugely ahead, shook Cerqueira's hand.

Thus it was that the last lady standing was done in by ladies, and this is an all-male affair from here on in.
