Van den Bijgaart 2, Berende 0

The Dutchies continue to battle it out, Paul Berende fired out 3,275 on the turn of a {K-Hearts} {9-Spades} {9-Hearts} {8-Hearts} board which Joep van den Bijgaart called to see a {J-Diamonds} river.

Now Berende tanked before checking, Van den Bijgaart bet out 6,125 and Berende instantly folded with a hint of frustration, mostly likely down to his compatriot having got the better of him once again.

More for Keiner

We arrived just in time to see Michael Keiner double up to 65,000. We're not terribly sure what happened, but we believe that it was the product of an unfortunate bluff from 2007 PCA finalist Frank Rusnak on the river. Either way, the cards looked like so:

Keiner: {k-Hearts}{8-Hearts}
Rusnak: a rather lacklustre {4-Spades}{7-Spades}

Board: {8-}{2-}{9-}{k-}{3-}

"I fold nine-two," said another player at the table, clearly very happy about having folded such a hand.

Russian To The Top

Matvey Linov looks to be the current chip leader and about to break the 100,000 mark. The Russian bet 6,775 on the river of a {7-Spades} {2-Spades} {6-Spades} {3-Clubs} {4-Diamonds} board against Dan Murariu and the latter made the call only to muck when he saw an unorthdox {6-Clubs} {3-Spades} for turned two pair.

Linov has 99,000

New Table of Death

The previous super tough table with Ivan Demidov, Sorel Mizzi, Alex Kravchenko, etc. broke last level, but a new vortex of poker skill has formed on half of a one table at the back of the room. That means it won't break tonight. Demidov once again has to wade through a tough line up. Here's how they sit:

Seat 6: Annette Obrestad
Seat 7: Jeff Sarwer
Seat 9: James Mitchell
Seat 10: Ivan Demidov

Klinger Clocked in Multi-Way All In

Praz Bansi raised in early position, and when it got to Josef Klinger, he moved all in for 8,000. That's when things got crazy. The next player to act shoved over top for not much more, and then right after him, Juha Vilkki over-over shoved. Bansi didn't need to think before getting out of the way. It was Klinger's pocket tens against big slick and Vilkki's pair of queens. The queen on the flop pretty much locked it up for Vilkki. He knocked out two players in one swing and moved up to 35,000.

Double Dutch

Paul Berende & Joep van den Bijgaart - separated at birth
Paul Berende & Joep van den Bijgaart - separated at birth

A little Dutch civil war has broken out between Paul Berende and Joep van den Bijgaart, the first blood went to Van den Bijgaart who moved all-in for around 13,000 on the river of a {8-}{9-}{q-}{3-}{8-} board.

A little tanking and gurning from Berende but followed by him folding {A-Hearts} {A-Spades} face up. Berende dropped to 20,000 while Van den Bijgaart has 40,000.

Rock The Kasber

Oleksii Zharko led out for 1,500 on the flop of {Q-Hearts} {7-Clubs} {7-Spades} but found Pokerstars qualifier Frank Kasbergen check-raising to 4,200. Zharko made the call and then called 7,500 on the {4-Spades} turn and then 10,000 on the {8-Clubs} river.

He was unhappy with what he saw though, when Kasbergen flipped {A-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} for flopped trips. Zharko flashed {K-Clubs} {Q-Spades}

A Walk in the Parkkinen

We arrived just in time to see a three-way all in on a {9-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} flop. Bit of a cooler, really.

Kai Välimäki: {q-Clubs}{q-Spades} for an overpair
Praz Bansi: {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades} for the best overpair
Seppo Parkkinen: {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} for top set

Turn: {7-Clubs}

River: {3-Hearts}

"How much is it?" asked the rather dejected Bansi before the river had even hit the felt. After paying Parkkinen, Bansi was back down just a shade below his starting stack. Välimäki meanwhile had even more cause to be dejected - he was left with no chips at all, and after standing behind his chair and looking forlorn for a few moments, hit the rail. The only person involved in the hand who was happy at the end of it was Parkkinen, who more than doubled up to around 65,000.

"The Finnish player is out," commented a passing member of the Finnish poker media philosophically, "But a Finnish player also won the pot. Ha ha ha."

Kay Runs into Quads

Matt Kay's day started on the wrong foot when he was set-over-setted for half of his stack. He'd managed to build back up until yet another unfortunate hand. This time, he bet 7,025, about two-thirds pot, on a {k-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{8-Hearts} board. That got rid of all of his smaller denomination chips, leaving him exactly two yellow T5,000s. Dariusz Paszkiewicz quickly moved all in behind him, putting Kay to the test for those last two chips. Kay folded, and Paszkiewicz slammed down his pair of red kings. Kay avoided busting to quads, but he's left himself with an uphill battle.
