Where Did All the Women Go?

Fatima Moreira de Melo, one of two women left in the Main Event
Fatima Moreira de Melo, one of two women left in the Main Event

Clearly poker is not popular among the ladies of the Baltic. Yesterday, only three of the 181 players were female. All three, Annette Obrestad, Vanessa Selbst, and Nelli Nufer, were eliminated before the end of the day. Today, of the 239 entrants, exactly two are women. And both are Team PokerStars Pros. Katja Thater is currently on 40,000 while Fatima Moreira de Melo has slipped to 25,000. That means women made up 1.2 percent of the Main Event field and only one woman dared enter without a major poker sponsorship deal. Not very impressive, ladies.

Puumalainen Pummeled

Miika Puumalainen and his massive blond dreadlocks will not be progressing any further in this tournament.

Puumalainen got his last in with pocket nines but smacked into the pocket kings of Vitalijs Zavorotnijs (imagine if both these gents' names were permissible in Scrabble!). Puumalainen failed to spike, and hit the rail well before dinner.

Eames' Inception Doesn't Last Long

Eames get bumped out of his dream.
Eames get bumped out of his dream.

John Eames was facing a 10,100 all-in bet from Jose Obadia on the turn of a {4-Clubs} {2-Hearts} {5-Clubs} {8-Hearts} board.

The Spaniard said, "If you lose you're still in, yes?"

Eames replied laconically, "Yes, I'll have 950 chips back."

Eames then made a very reluctant call and Obadia showed {9-Hearts} {9-Diamonds}, Eames nodded flipping {7-Clubs} {7-Hearts} and the river was the {K-Hearts}.

Crippled, Eames was eliminated a few hands later.

More-sson for Thorsson

Kristoffer Thorsson
Kristoffer Thorsson

We arrived just in time to see three players turn their cards over in a preflop all-in showdown.

Ferit Gabrielsson: {8-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}
Kristoffer Thorsson: {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}
Paul Pires-Trigo: covering them both with {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}

Board: {2-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{2-Spades}{4-Spades}

Thorsson's aces held up, and the 2009 Amsterdam Master Classics champion more than doubled to around 60,000. Gabrielsson busted out, and Pires-Trigo made a face as around half his stack was handed over to Thorsson.

EEK It Out

With the close of registration, we can now tell you exactly how many EEKs that translates into for the lucky folks who make to the money and beyond here in Tallinn. This is how the prizes break down, in both Euros and EEKs, or Estonian Kroonis.

1) €400,000 / 6,258,640 EEK
2) €250,000 / 3,911,650 EEK
3) €160,000 / 2,503,456 EEK
4) €120,000 / 1,877,592 EEK
5) €80,000 / 1,251,728 EEK
6) €63,000 / 985,736 EEK
7) €47,000 / 735,390 EEK
8) €32,000 / 500,691 EEK
9-10) €25,000 / 391,165 EEK
11-12) €18,000 / 281,639 EEK
13-14) €14,000 / 219,052 EEK
15-16) €12,000 / 187,759 EEK
17-24) €10,000 / 156,466 EEK
25-32) €8,000 / 125,173 EEK
33-40) €7,200 / 112,656 EEK
41-48) €6,700 / 104,832 EEK
49-56) €6,350 / 99,356 EEK

The total prize pool is €1,596,000, or a much more impressive sounding 24,971,814 EEK. That, my friends, is a lot of Kroonis.

Moschitta Swatted

One player opened to 750, and after a caller, Luca Moschitta moved all in on the button for around 12,000. The original raiser looked him up, and the flatter decided to fold. It was a standard race with Moschitta tournament life resting on his {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}. But his opponent's {a-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} took a big lead on the {a-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{4-Hearts} flop. The {a-Hearts} turn didn't help, and after the {5-Hearts} river, Moschitta made his exit. Vadim Markushevski, who had been on Moschitta's right, is now back to being the only PokerStars Pro at the table.

Where There's a Wilinofsky

Benjamin Wilinofsky raised to 800 under the gun, and a player in middle position called. Nikolay Evdakov came along from the big blind, and one person at the table joked that it was time to settle in for a thirty-minute hand. The flop fell {10-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{5-Spades}, and Evdakov checked. Wilinofsky bet 1,700, and after the middle player folded, Evdakov called unusually quickly. The {j-Hearts} on the turn gave them more to think about. Evdakov checked, and Wilinofsky took several minutes to decide on a bet of 3,300. Evdakov took some more time to consider the sizing before giving up his hand, leaving himself with 9,350. Wilinofsky is up to 43,000.

Shorn Deeb

In a raised pot Andrey Mitlyansky led out for 5,000 and Shaun Deeb made the call on a {10-Spades} {K-Spades} {4-Diamonds} flop. Both players checked the {9-Clubs} turn before Mitlyansky bet 11,025 on the {3-Hearts} river.

Deeb thought for about 30 seconds before making the call but could only nod his head and muck when shown {A-Clubs} {K-Hearts}. Deeb drops to about 15,000.

Greco Nicks One

Michael Greco
Michael Greco

Johan Storakers opened preflop to 1,050 from the hijack, Michael Greco made the call on the button while Vadim Markushevski also called from the big blind.

All three checked the {5-Diamonds} {7-Spades} {8-Diamonds} board before both Markushevski and Storakers also checked the {Q-Hearts} turn. Greco didn't though and quickly slid out 1,725 which managed to win him the pot fairly speedily.
