Chip daddy Perica Bukara approves of this message

Halloo, as they say in Estonia, and welcome back to the vertiginous 6th floor tournament area of the Swissotel Tallinn where things are about to get serious.

After another nine hours of Day 1 play yesterday, Perica Bukara emerged as overall chip leader on 210,600. 120 players survived Day 1b, and added to the 90 who made it through Day 1a a total of 210 players remain of the 420 who started.

Among the familiar names populating the field are Team PokerStars Pros Luca Pagano, Arnaud Mattern, Vadim Markushevski and Ivan Demidov. The Day 2 runners are filtering in from breakfast now, and play should resume very shortly. Please stand by.

Thorsson Rocks Petros' World

Thorsson - more-sson
Thorsson - more-sson

Kristoffer Thorsson has had a fine start to the day.

We arrived just in time to see him knocking out Zennawi Petros. We didn't quite manage to see what Mr. Petros had, but Thorsson had a flopped set of sixes and Petros couldn't beat it.

Thorsson must have won another decent pot right at the start of the day, as he has managed in just a few hands to increase his stack from 32,500 at the start of the day to almost 100,000 now.

Mazunin's Trap Fails

Arnaud Mattern opened to 2,800 preflop from early position and Mikhail Mazunin reraised out of the small blind to 7,200. Mattern made the call to see a {A-Spades} {5-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} flop where the Russian continued the aggression with a 9,200 bet.

Mattern made a fairly speedy call before both players checked the {3-Hearts} turn and then the {6-Diamonds} river. Mazunin looked about as frustrated as the average England fan at the World Cup, turning over {A-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} having hoped the Frenchman would make a move. Sneaky boy.

Mattern drops to about 87,000 while Mazunin moves up to 66,000.

Don't Hassle The Hoff

Steven van Zadelhoff
Steven van Zadelhoff

Steven van Zadelhoff was looking a {3-Hearts} {A-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} {3-Spades} {6-Hearts} board where checked across to the aggressive Belarussian Vadim Markushevski. The Team Pokerstars Pro slid out a bet of 14,000 but after a short while, Van Zadelholff check-raised to 37,000 putting Markushevski into the tank.

Several minutes elapsed and eventually Markushevski folded, Van Zadelhoff later tweeted that he had {A-} {A-} and is up to 142,000.
