Til Death Do Us Part

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Johan van Til
Johan van Til

Johan van Til has exited the tournament (we can almost hear the anguished cries from Holland). He was pretty short stacked, and looked for an open spot to get it in preflop. He found it and duly moved in with {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}, but Michael Tureniec wasted no time calling him with {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}. The board brought {3-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{6-Spades} and van Til headed off.

Kicked in the Gulyys

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Some gross misfortune for Andrey Gulyy.

By the time we got there the cards were already on their backs, Florian Langmann in the small blind and Gulyy all in from the big blind.

Gulyy: {k-}{k-}
Langmann: {a-Spades}{10-Spades}

Board: {q-}{9-}{5-}{a-}{5-}

The spiky ace on the turn spelled the end of the tournament road for Gulyy, who headed for the payout desk just before the break. The dealer began collecting antes for the next hand; Langmann was distracted stacking up his new 305,000 chip hoard, so she asked him, "Can you spare one?"

"Of course!" said Langmann happily, "You are a very good dealer."

Misread on the River for Langmann

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Florian Langmann
Florian Langmann

Ah the hilarity that ensues when a player thinks he's busted out, but in fact he's made a flush! Team PokerStars Pro Florian Langmann got it in preflop with {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}, dominating the button big stack's {A-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}. So far so simple - the {10-Spades}{6-Spades}{5-Diamonds} flop was safe, the {4-Spades} turn, too, but on the {9-Spades} river Langmann only saw the pair of nines and not the spade flush. He got up and politely prepared to take his leave, before it was pointed out to him that he'd won (and doubled up to 175k).

"I was just joking," he said unconvincingly as everyone chuckled.

Not the End of the Pierre

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Thorsten Schafer
Thorsten Schafer

Pierre Genot has enjoyed a relatively tiny double up, his {k-Hearts}{k-Spades} holding against Thorsten Schafer's {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts} on a {q-Clubs}{8-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{4-Hearts} board. Genot is now up to a much more comfortable 100,000 or so; Schafer's stack meanwhile was barely dented by the small hit and he's still at over half a million.

As the Krogh Flies - Upwards in the Chip Counts

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Lars Krogh
Lars Krogh

There were a few tense moments at Table 36 - Helge Rahbek had bet out a pretty chunky sum (it looked like around 30,000) on the {10-Clubs}{7-Spades}{8-Clubs} flop, only for Lars Krogh to shove for an additional 73,500. Rahbek tanked up for some time, a very intense expression on his face, and finally folded.

Current standings - Krogh 175,000, Rahbeck 340,000.

Unlucky 7s

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Sørensen's exit hand was {7-Clubs}{7-Spades} - he ran it preflop into {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}. This particular pocket pair hasn't done any favours on other tables this level either - Mark Hirleman called Pernille Ravn's preflop shove with {7-Hearts}{7-Spades} only to find her {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts} turning a flush (the board {J-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{4-Hearts}).
