The Past Few Hands

Level 29 : 50,000/100,000, 10,000 ante

There's been a lot of raising, but very little in the way of cards for us to see.

First the newly chipped up Juan Maceiras opened to 230,000 under the gun, but Torsten Brinkmann reraised to 510,000 from the cutoff, prompting Maceiras to fold something that we couldn't see too well on the feed but it looked like one paint card and one ten.

Next hand Ivan Freitez raised UTG+1 and everyone folded. The Venezuelan is once again over the 6 million mark.

The following hand it was Torsten Brinkmann's turn to open UTG+1. Everyone folded and he picked up the blinds and antes.

Alex Gomes Eliminated in 7th Place (€185,000)

Alex Gomes has been knocked out by Eugene Yanayt. Blind on blind, the experienced Gomes knew his stack was in the danger zone (1,200,000) and with the action folded round he moved in with {7-Spades}{8-Spades} from the small blind. Unfortunately for him, Yanayt in the big blind had a hand he didn't need to think about - {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} - and he called, holding over a {K-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{5-Spades} board.

Maceiras Gets Pushy

Level 29 : 50,000/100,000, 10,000 ante
Juan Maceiras

Eugene Yanayt min-raised two hands in a row from the button and cutoff respectively. The first time he got away with it, but the second time Juan Maceiras shoved from the small blind for 2.7 million. Yanayt looked as though he was seriously considering it, but in the event he passed.

Maceiras is back up to almost dead on 3 million.

Brinkmann Doubles Through Yanayt

Level 29 : 50,000/100,000, 10,000 ante
Torsten Brinkmann

Alex Gomes raise to 205,000 from UTG+1 before Freitez made it 410,000 in the big blind to win the pot.

Eugene Yanayt raised to 200,000 from UTG+1, and Juan Maceiras called from the cutoff but then Torsten Brinkmann moved all in for exactly 1.5 million. Yanayt then thought for a while before calling and Maceiras said, "I was going to call..." folding {a-}{q-} face up.

Brinkmann: {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}
Yanayt: {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}

Brinkmann was much happier with Yanayt's call than the idea of flipping against Maceiras, as he should've been because the board came {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}{K-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}. If Yanayt had folded, Brinkmann would've been called by the Spaniard and would now be out.

Instead Yanayt has lost a 3.5 million chip pot to the German while Maceiras is left lamenting what might have been...

Yanayt Picks Up a Big One

Level 29 : 50,000/100,000, 10,000 ante

Ivan Freitez opened up to 230,000, the chip leader has been very active so far today but his stack has gone backwards so far today. This hand however, he wins the blinds with the raise.

Andrey Danilyuk raised to 220,000 from UTG and purloined the blinds and antes.

Eugene Yanayt min-raised to 200,000 from the cutoff, Team PokerStars Pro Juan Maceiras made the call in the small blind. The flop was {4-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{2-Spades} and Maceiras checked across to the raiser Yanayt who bet 250,000, the Spaniard made a quick call to see the {9-Clubs} turn. Now Maceiras led out for 430,000 and Yanayt tanked for a couple of minutes before raising to 1.6 million and Maceiras instantly folded.

Freitez Wins a Small One, Loses a Larger One

Level 28 : 40,000/80,000, 5,000 ante

Ivan Freitez raised to 180,000 from the button and the blinds both folded. He showed them {q-Spades}{q-Clubs} by way of warning.

Next hand, Freitez raised again, this time to 175,000 from the cutoff. Undeterred by the queens, this time Eugene Yanayt raised to 500,000. After a little time spent in the tank, Freitez flat-called. Yanayt immediately had another peek at his hole cards and the flop was dealt.

The flop came down {a-Spades}{3-Hearts}{9-Hearts} and Yanayt thought about it for a little while before betting out 625,000. It was enough to make Freitez fold, and Yanayt is now up to 4.3 million.

Andrew Li Eliminated in 8th Place (€130,000)

Level 28 : 40,000/80,000, 5,000 ante
Andrew Li
Andrew Li

The returning short stack is now a non-stack, Andrew Li having taken his second shot at shoving over Eugene Yanayt preflop. Yanayt had raised to 165,000 and for the second time in 12 hands, Li's 1,590,000 stack moved across the line (20bb). While he passed last time, he took Li on now with {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}, in a flip for both of their tournament lives, in effect, with Li's {3-Spades}{3-Diamonds}.

The flop: {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{4-Spades} Li continued to grin as he has been all day - you can't fault his cheerfulness
The turn: {7-Hearts}
The river: {4-Clubs} A twinge of disappointment only for the top sit'n'go player, who leaves with six figures.
