Solinas Kapable of Going Deep?

Level 4 : 150/300, 0 ante
Georgios Kapalas
Georgios Kapalas

There was around 12,000 in the pot by the river of the {9-Spades}{2-Clubs}{3-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{q-Spades} board when we got there; IPT Female Player of the Year Carla Solinas had checked, and PokerStars Greek Challenger and 2009 EPT Barcelona finalist Georgios Kapalas had bet 6,700. Solinas tanked up for a very long time, but eventually made the call. She flipped {k-}{k-}, and soon discovered that it was good when Kapalas could only muster {7-}{7-}. He shrugged as he dropped to 22,000; she meanwhile looked largely relieved as she upped her stack to 53,000.

Loth-fty Heights

Level 4 : 150/300, 0 ante

Lucien Cohen was tanking. He had raised Richard Loth's 1,400 bet to 3,675 but Loth set him all-in for his last 9,000 on a flop of {6-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{3-Hearts} - Finally Cohen sighed and called with {6-Clubs}{3-Spades} but Loth had flopped a flush with {j-Hearts}{10-Hearts}, the latter holding on a {k-Hearts} turn and {8-Spades} river for the pot.

Wilinofsky Won't

Level 4 : 150/300, 0 ante
Ben Wilinofsky
Ben Wilinofsky

An intriguing hand will remain forever mysterious as a preflop raising war broke out between another of our PokerStars Greek Challengers Alexios Zervos in the cutoff and EPT Berlin champion Ben Wilinofsky in the big blind. There was around 20,000 in the pot when we got there, and Wilinofsky was facing an additional 5,700 from Zervos - what we suspect was a six-bet. Wilinofsky tanked, and tanked, and tanked - and eventually folded, releasing an almighty sigh as he turned his face ceilingwards as if to ask God why.

This proved to be a setback from which he was unable to recover - we're not sure of the details, but he is no longer in his seat.

Calia Eliminated

Level 4 : 150/300, 0 ante
Nicolo Calia
Nicolo Calia

Nicolo Calia has been eliminated after being all-in for his last 10,000 with {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} on a flop of {2-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{5-Clubs} against the {2-Spades}{2-Hearts} of Samer Rahman. The {5-Hearts} turn reduced Calia to an ace or the {3-Clubs} but the river was the {9-Diamonds} and the Italian was knocked out of his home tournament.

Wice Worser

Level 4 : 150/300, 0 ante
Lex Veldhuis
Lex Veldhuis

Last year's winner Liv Boeree opened to 500 preflop from the cutoff, Lex Veldhuis called in the small blind and Alex Wice called from the big blind.

The flop was {j-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} and Veldhuis led out for 1,100, Wice called and Boeree folded leaving us heads up for the {5-Diamonds} turn. Veldhuis now bet 2,600 and again Wice called without too much hesitation. The river was the {7-Hearts} and Veldhuis now bet 12,300 - an overbet of the pot and the usually fast-acting Wice slowed right down.

Tanking for over a minute (that's a Wice minute, roughly equivalent to five of our normal minutes) Wice finally made the call and turned over {k-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}. Veldhuis flipped {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} for the absolute nuts and the Dutchman is up to about 63,000 while Wice dropped to about 14,000 or so.

Hand Science by Andy Black

Level 4 : 150/300, 0 ante
Andy Black
Andy Black

Andy Black has just doubled up and is stretching his neck around the top of the leader board.

He and his opponent, Peter Nordin, had a bit of a card argument pre flop and all of their money went in the middle to settle the dispute.

Black: {k-Spades} {k-Diamonds}
Nordin: {a-Diamonds} {a-Clubs}

So what did Andy Black have to say about the pre flop action? Lay it out scientifically for us Mr Black.

"Well, when he re-raised me I thought he must have aces. But I thought f**k it I am all-in." Said Black

Flop: {7-Spades} {3-Spades} {8-Diamonds}

Turn: {j-Spades}

River: {k-Hearts}

Black picked up a flush draw on the turn to give himself some more outs but the presence of the third King won the hand for him anyway.

Nordin walked off in disgust despite having 75 left to his name.

Those 80K Swings...

Level 4 : 150/300, 0 ante

There was quite a crowd around Ted Forrest's table though the American (making a rare foray into Europe's poker waters) was not involved. Manuel Coppola (No relation to Francis Ford or Sofia we presume) had 4-bet all in for a massive 40,000 over a raise to 1,200 and then a 3-bet to 7,200.

Pierre Sakr, who had made the 3-bet tanked for a while after the intial raiser and caller both folded. Sakr finally calling with {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} miles ahead of Coppola's {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} but the board came {j-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} and the huge pot was shipped to the Italian who is up to 80,000.

De Vries Now Moving in Right Direction

Level 4 : 150/300, 0 ante
Shander de Vries
Shander de Vries

Shander de Vries' stack dropped into the early 20s in the first few hours of play, but he's now making a bit of a recovery.

The EPT Barcelona finalist reraised to 2,150 from the small blind to a 650 raise from online qualifier Davide Costa and a call from Salvatore Arrigo; Costa folded but Arrigo made the call to see a flop. The {6-}{5-}{4-} flop must not have been to his liking though - de Vries bet out, and Arrigo swiftly passed, boosting de Vries' stack back up to 25,500.
