Unbagging For Day 4

We're down to just 64 players here at the PokerStars.it EPT San Remo, and we're about 20 minutes away from the start of Day 4. A brisk pace has brought us this far this fast, and we've still got three days of poker left to play before we crown our champion.

Chris McClung is currently in the cat-bird seat, the only player to clip the one-million-chip mark yesterday. The remaining field is littered with dangerous players, though, and Australia's Daniel Neilson leads the chase pack with 853,000. Joseph "subiime" Cheong had the lead when play began on Day 3, and he still sits comfortably in the top five here at the halfway post. And rounding out the top five is Alessio Isaia, perhaps one of Italy's best poker players.

Team PokerStars Pro will be represented by the same four that bore the patches yesterday, too. It's Johnny Lodden carrying the torch with 793,000, and Lex Veldhuis begins in the top ten, as well, with 687,000. Vanessa Selbst (400,000) and the EPT's founder, John Duthie (319,000) are the other two, and everyone's got enough chips to splash around a little bit today.

Cards go live in just a few minutes, so don't wander off on us.

No Fun For Fundaro

On a {8-Spades} {Q-Hearts} {2-Hearts} flop, we watched Sergey Tikhonov check-call a bet of 38,000 from Giacomo Fundaro. The Italian was on the button, and Tikhonov in the small blind, and they went as far as the turn {A-Hearts}. Tikhonov checked again, and Fundaro took his cue to bet another 61,000 at the pot. After a long soak in the tank, though, Tikhonov check-raised the minimum, and Fundaro was forced to give it up.

Yunis Chipping Up

Nick Yunis has won the large majority of pots at his table, including this one here.

From middle position, Sebastian Saffari raised to 16,000. Nick Yunis called from the small blind and David Bach called from the big blind to see the {Q-Spades}{J-Hearts}{9-Spades} flop come out. After Yunis and Bach checked, Saffari bet 28,000. Yunis put in a check-raise to 84,000 and Bach folded. With 449,000 behind, Saffari also gave it up and Yunis won the pot.

Here Comes Cheong

Joseph Cheong has just claimed the tournament life of Eduard Kapitonov. Kapitonov got the last of his stack in bad with {A-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} against Cheong's {A-Spades} {K-Diamonds}.

There was no help for Kapitonov on the {2-Hearts} {J-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} {9-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} board, and Cheong moves up over the million-chip mark with that knockout. We'll tentatively call it 1.1 million, but we'll have to wait for him to stack up before we can get a better count.

Tens and Nines for Bach

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

David Bach opened with a raise to 21,000 from the cutoff seat and Team PokerStars Pro Lex Veldhuis called from the button. In the big blind, Sebastian Saffari also came along.

The flop came down {A-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{9-Spades} and action was checked by Saffari. Bach then bet 37,000 and Veldhuis folded. Saffari made the call.

The turn was the {9-Hearts} and both players checked to see the {3-Clubs} land on the river. Both players checked again.

Bach tabled the {Q-Spades}{10-Clubs} and Saffari mucked his hand.
