Puchkov Triples But Karamalikis the Big Winner

Jonathan Karamalikis on Day 1b.
Jonathan Karamalikis on Day 1b.

Clement Bonin raised to 12,000 from middle position and received a call from Australian Jonathan Karamalikis, who was directly to his left. A short-stacked Konstantin Puchkov called from the big blind, and it was three-way action to the {9-Spades}{J-Clubs}{8-Spades} flop.

Puchkov was first to act and moved all in for 36,000, which Bonin raised to 73,000. Karamalikis responded by moving all in, and Bonin called off for 291,000.

Showdown
Bonin: {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}
Karamalikis: {Q-Diamonds}{10-Spades}
Puchkov: {K-Spades}{J-Spades}

It was an action flop to say the least as all three players hit big. Puchkov flopped top pair with a flush draw, Bonin a set, and Karamalikis the nuts. The {2-Spades} turn gave Puchkov the said flush, while the {A-Clubs} blanked on the river. Puchkov tripled, though he is still short, while Karamalikis eliminated Bonin and collected the sizable side pot.

Below are the counts from Table 8.

Cailly Me, Maybe

Lucille Cailly is up to nearly 900,000. She just fired bets of 32,000 and 45,000 on the turn and river of a {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{8-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} board, getting called down by Antonin Duda.

Cailly flipped {Q-Spades}{7-Spades} for trips and Duda mucked.

Most of the round two bouts of the €10,300 EPT Heads Up Championship are under way with Jonathan Duhamel, Dario Minieri, Dan Smith and Justin Bonomo among those making it through. Players that fell at the first hurdle include Martin Jacobson and ElkY (they don't win everything).

Check the round two draw at the PokerStars Blog.

Smedstad Leaves

Norway's Torunn Smedstad shoved from the button holding {A-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} and was called by Konstantin Uspenskiy from Russia with {K-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} in the cutoff seat.

The flop went {Q-Diamonds} {3-Hearts} {4-Clubs} leaving Smedstad still in need for an ace to survive. The {8-Hearts} on the turn bricked and the {J-Clubs} on the river didn't comfort Smedstad much as she left the tournament leaving it one female player shorter.

More for Fernandez

Marcos Fernandez
Marcos Fernandez

Samuel Rodriguez raised to 13,000 from the small blind and Marcos Fernandez made the call in the big blind. The dealer opened {9-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} on the flop and Fernandez fired 22,000. Rodriguez made the call and the two players saw the {9-Spades} come on the turn.

Fernandez continued for 28,000 and Rodriguez went along with the call. Both checked the {2-Spades} on the river and Fernandez flipped {K-Spades} {6-Diamonds}. Rodriguez didn't like what he saw and mucked his hand leaving the pot to Fernandez.

Table 6 Action and Counts

Over at Table 6, action folded to [Removed:273] in the cutoff and he raised to 13,000. Team PokerStars Pro Matthias De Meulder was in the small blind and opted for a three-bet to 36,000, which inspired Casals to move all in. De Meulder had the smaller stack and decided to preserve his remaining 180,000.
