Queens no Good for Petersen

Mickey Petersen might be regretting flat calling with pocket queens in a five-way pot as he's out of the door now. William Thorson took the stack and retold the story of the Team PokerStars Online's demise.

There was a raise to 1,000 and two flat calls (including Thorson on the button) before Albert Bernardo three-bet to 3,500 from the small blind. Petersen cold called from the big blind and all three other players still in the pot called.

The flop fell {6-}{6-}{4-} and Bernardo led for 13,000. Petersen called out of of a 30,000-chip stack and saw two folds before Thorson raised to 27,000. Bernardo folded but the Dane committed the rest of his chips. Call.

Petersen was in a world of trouble as Thorson had trips with {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}. The board bricked out and the EPT Copenhagen champion won't be breaking any records here.

More Than One Game On Now

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

The tournament staff has been so kind to accommodate everyone here at the European Poker Tour Berlin by putting the UEFA Champions League match on the big projector screen between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. Now everyone is able to watch the match while they play poker, the best of both worlds.

Fox Slain

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

Elio Fox's hopes of adding a European Poker Tour title to his World Series of Poker Europe main event bracelet have been left in tatters as he has just been eliminated from this tournament by Steven Thomsen.

A preflop raising war broke out that resulted in Fox being all-in and at risk of elimination but he held the upper hand as in his hand was the {K-Spades}{K-Hearts} and he was up against the {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} of Thomsen. The dealer burned a card before putting the {2-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} flop onto the board, the fact there were two diamonds drawing some oohs and aahs from those seated at the table.

The turn was the {6-Clubs} and Fox was on course for a much needed double up but the {Q-Diamonds} on the river completed the flush for Thomsen and Fox was sent to the rail.

Sarwer Spikes a Double

On the {8-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} flop, one player checked before action fell on Jordan Lewis. He bet 1,600 and Jeff Sarwer called behind. The other player also called.

The turn added the {10-Diamonds} to the board and the first player checked. Lewis bet 3,400 and Sarwer called. The third player folded this time.

After the {6-Clubs} landed on the river, Lewis checked and Sarwer moved all in. Lewis tanked for several minutes and then announced a call. Sarwer tabled the nuts with the {9-Hearts}{7-Hearts} and Lewis mucked his hand. Sarwer was all in for 18,025 and doubled to around 50,000 in chips.

Werner Check-Raise Does The Job

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

Bernd Werner open-limped from the hijack seat and his fellow countryman in the next seat, Tony Stockhecke, raised it up to 1,700 and Werner called. The dealer fanned out the {6-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{4-Hearts} flop and Werner checked its arrival. Stockhecke made a continuation bet of 2,300 only to see Werner check-raise up to 6,900. Stockhecke checked his cards, then re-checked them before flicking them back to the dealer.

ElkY's UTG Range Wide? Never!

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

Most poker books suggest that you only raise the most premium of hands from under the gun but it appears that ElkY has not taken heed of that because he just opened the action from that very position, making it 1,025 to play but when the player to his direct left, Andreas Setz, three-bet to 3,000 ElkY quickly folded.

Friends With Benefits

A lot of the young players who travel circuit off-set the loneliness of life on the road by forming little groups. They fly together, share hotels rooms, go to dinner, and talk through strategy. This offers a lot of unseen benefits to their profitability. Xuan Liu, David Vamplew and Mickey Petersen are all good friends of similar age who hang together and all three have restarted well after dinner.

Petersen raised from second position after Albert Bernardo limped from the under-the-gun seat. Bernardo called to see a {4-Hearts}{10-Spades}{7-Spades} flop where he check-called a 2,000 bet. Both players checked through the {j-Spades} turn and Bernardo led for 3,000 on the {k-Spades} river. Petersen called with {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs} and took the pot as his opponent only had {7-Hearts}.

Vamplew is on the up after check-raising on a {a-Hearts}{3-Spades}{8-Hearts} flop in a three-way pot. It did the trick as both opponents folded.

Meanwhile Liu tweeted: "Just knocked out two shorties, 69k just after dinner."

Markus Ristola Has Kings Cracked

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

Markus Ristola has been left with just 4,500 after having his kings cracked by Griffin Benger. All the chips went in preflop with Ristola holding {K-Spades}{K-Hearts} and Benger the {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}.

Benger was the player at risk and it looked life he was about to be busted out because by the turn the board read {3-Hearts}{10-Spades}{6-Spades}{9-Diamonds} but the river was the {A-Spades} which earned him a stay of execution and crippled Ristola.
