More Photographical Wonderment

These include some scenic shots of Madrid and a few more player photos, as well. Thanks, as usual, to Neil Stoddart for these. At least someone is getting some time to see the sights of this magnificent city.

O'Dea Gives it Up

Eoghan O'Dea
Eoghan O'Dea

We picked up the action on the flop in a three-way pot between the two blinds and Ronald Van de Berg, who appeared to have been the preflop raiser in postion. Either way, the board showed {2-Spades} {7-Hearts} {8-Spades} when we walked up, and Eoghan O'Dea was leading out with 1,400 from the big blind. Van de Berg flatted, the small blind folded, and now it was heads up to the {7-Spades} turn. O'Dea loaded up with another 3,000, but Van de Berg's mini-raise to 6,000 earned him the pot with a reluctant fold from his opponent.

Di Cicco Loves the Ladies

In a preflop raising war, Massimo Di Cicco ended up shoving all in for about 33,000 on what appeared to be a five-bet shove. After just a few seconds of consideration, his four-betting opponent made the call for his last ~29,000, and it was a big coin flip as the cards were turned up.

Showdown
Di Cicco: {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs}
Opponent: {A-Diamonds} {K-Hearts}

The {8-Clubs} {A-Clubs} {2-Clubs} flop shot Mr. Opponent into the lead, but Di Cicco had flopped the flush draw to give himself another nine outs to the win.

Turn: {10-Clubs}

That'll do. Mr. Opponent was thusly eliminated one card early, and the {5-Spades} river was nothing more than a formality.

After dragging that knockout pot, the Italian has nearly doubled to about 64,000.

Gift From a Gent

David Gent opened to 750 preflop before Arnaud Matern made it 2,000 from middle position, Gent eyed up the Frenchman's stack before setting him all in, Mattern quickly called.

Gent: {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}
Mattern: {A-Spades}{K-Spades}

The door card was the {A-Clubs} and it was followed by a board of {Q-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{2-Spades}{3-Diamonds} - Mattern doubled up to almost 25,000 while Gent dropped to roughly 12,000.

One and a Quarter

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Registration for Day 1a has been closed for a bit now, and we've just received the numbers in our inbox. Officially, 125 players turned up to kick off EPT8 Madrid, a number that was likely reduced due to the Sunday action on PokerStars.

Tomorrow is a new day, and we'd expect to see a full house in the Casino Gran Madrid.

Judet Snaps Stack in Half

Toni Judet
Toni Judet

Toni Judet is down to 27,000 after paying off an opponent who held the nut flush. The player in question raised to 750 from under the gun and Judet (from the next seat) called along with Barny Boatman and Chris Moorman in the blinds.

The flop fell {2-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} and and Judet went into call mode as he called a 1,150 here, 3,400 on the {7-Diamonds} turn, and snapped 10,550 on the {q-Clubs} river (The Two Brits folded on the flop). Judet was shown {a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for the nut flush and mucked.
