Holdeew Focused On The Poker

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

At about 9pm last night Dmitri Holdeew took down the Eureka Poker Tour Main Event for €226,400, having bested a field of 1,315. He'd have to finish fourth or fifth in the EPT Main Event to better that and the German, who lives in Vienna, has put celebrating his victory on hold to play some more poker. "No I didn't celebrate last night," he asked when I inquired if he'd had a drink last night.

Smart move as he's got 78,000 for a stack that's well above average.

Boeken Busted, Benelli Bloated

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Noah Boeken
Noah Boeken

Andrea Benelli opened from middle position and Noah Boeken three bet. Someone behind Boeken smooth called and the Italian came along for the ride as well. Three way to the {5-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}-flop where all players checked. The turn brought the {5-Diamonds} into play and it was checked to Boeken who bet 4,700. The other player folded and Benelli raised it up to 10,200. Boeken made the call and the {4-Clubs} fell on the river. Benelli thought for a some time and then announced all in, effectively putting Boeken all in for his last 18,500. Boeken thought about it and then tossed in a single red 1,000 chip to indicate the call.

Benelli showed his {K-Spades}{5-Spades} and Boeken mucked, wishing his opponents good luck while doing so. Boeken, who just last month won the Master Classics of Poker Main Event in Amsterdam for €306,821, told us he had ace-king and thought just nines would be a possibility for Benelli to have him beat. He never saw king-five coming apparently, maybe next time he'll be more on his toes when battling Benelli.

Linton’s in Town

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Pete Linton
Pete Linton

Pete Linton may not be one of the biggest names in the tournament here but he is a regular at many UK casinos and had a fantastic result at the ISPT Wembley Tournament in June, finishing 4th winning €375,000. He’s not afraid to get some chips in the middle and put opponents to the test when he thinks they will crack under pressure. In this hand he opened for 1,100 and faced a small three-bet from Manuel Bevand of France. The small blind called too so Linton threw in the chips. All three players checked a flop of {j-Clubs}{j-Spades}{q-Hearts} and the dealer put out a turn {3-Spades}. Small blind checked and well, Linton just hates to see an orphaned pot and his bet of 5,600 was enough for him to bring it towards his stack to look after.

Bernard Lattouf Wins Huge 135,000 Chip Pot

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

There was a huge commotion on table 28 where a player had let out a celebratory cry that, by decibel level, suggested that he'd just won the Main Event.

He hadn't of course, but he had won a huge pot. When I scuttled over I saw Bernard Lattouf with {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs} in front of him and the board showing {K-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{6-Spades}{8-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}. The other player in the hand was Norbert Szecsi and he was shipping Lattouf 67,300. The Hungarian's cards were already face down, but the floor staff told me that Szecsi's hand was king-jack. He's back down to 29,000 after that wounder.

Von Perger Purged

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Jamila Von Perger
Jamila Von Perger

It went all rather quickly but one thing is for sure: Jamila Von Perger is no longer an active participant in the PokerStars.net European Poker Tour Prague Main Event. She was already rather short and got her last chips in with {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}. That third best starting hand in Hold'Em was second best in the showdown she had with her neighbor who tabled {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}.

It was preflop all in and Von Perger was drawing very slim after the flop already: {K-Clubs}{10-Spades}{2-Diamonds}. The {A-Diamonds} on the turn made her wait for just one more second before finally exiting after the {4-Spades} hit the river anyway. Von Perger, who went deep in EPT Barcelona (23rd for €34,950), can cheer her boyfriend on if she wants to; Manig Loeser is still in the tournament.

Pot Sized River Shove by Savov

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

Valeri Savov, a PokerStars player from Bulgaria moved all-in on the river on a board showing {j-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} and his sole opponent in the pot was deep in the tank. It was Jonathan Roy from Canada who had the decision to make. He had him covered but it would be a decent chunk of his stack and Savov’s shove was for 11,550 which was just over a pot sized bet. Whatever Roy cards were he didn’t call in the end and a gutsy move by Savov saw him survive with some additional chips.
