Thorel Drags Massive Pot From Soika

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Ihar Soika raised before the flop from the hijack and found calls from Daniel Negreanu in the cutoff and Jean-Noel Thorel in the big blind. The flop came down {7-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{5-Clubs} and it was checked to Soika who bet an unknown amount. Both Negreanu and Thorel called.

Fourth street was the {J-Clubs} and Thorel fired out 50,000. Soika came over the top for what looked to be 175,000 and Negreanu tossed his hand away. Thorel flat called. The river paired the board with the {J-Spades} and Thorel wasted little time moving 250,000 forward. Soika went into the tank for about two minutes, counting out chips and wiggling in his seat while he pondered his action. Eventually, a call was made and Thorel slapped {K-Hearts}{5-Hearts} onto the table for jacks and fives. Soika shook his head and mucked his hand which sent the table into a frenzy. Thorel shot up from his seat, ripped his jacket off in excitement, then sat back down to stack his new chips.

I had nines!" lamented Negreanu to the table after the hand.

Thorel picked up the pot and now has about 1.42 million in chips.

Full House for Thorel

Level 20 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

On the {A-Clubs}{J-Spades}{5-Diamonds} flop, Jonathan Duhamel bet 35,000, and Jean-Noel Thorel called. The turn was the {J-Diamonds} to pair the board, and Duhamel checked. Thorel bet 35,000, and Duhamel called. The {2-Hearts} landed on the river, and Duhamel check-called 50,000 from Thorel.

Thorel showed the {A-Spades}{J-Hearts} for a full house, and Duhamel mucked.

Ole Schemion and Jonathan Duhamel got involved in a preflop raising war that saw all the money go in. It began with Schemion openeing to 26,000 from the hijack seat. Duhamel then three-bet from the small blind to an unknown amount. Schemion then made it 111,000 to go, and Duhamel shoved all in for 399,000. Schemion called.

Duhamel showed the {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades} for a flip against the {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades} of Schemion. The board ran out {Q-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{Q-Clubs}, and Duhamel's tens held to give him the double.

Just as Jonathan Duhamel was doubling up on the other table, Kevin Vandersmissen was all in with the {A-Hearts}{3-Spades} against the {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} for Raoul Refos. A board of {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} gave both players trip aces, but it was Refos' kicker that was the better of the two. Vandersmissen was eliminated in 13th place and earned €29,100.

The all-in pots just keep on coming.

This time, it was Sam Chartier all in with the {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts} against the {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} for David Benefield. The flop came down {8-Spades}{5-Hearts}{3-Clubs}, which was pretty bleak as far as Chartier was concerned. The turn was the {4-Spades}, leaving Chartier in need of a queen or a jack on the river. All Benefield had to do was dodge one of those Broadway cards.

The river completed the board with the {10-Clubs}, and Chartier had missed. He was eliminated in 12th place and took home €29,100.

Ole Schemion opened the pot to 35,000 from the cutoff and Ihar Soika made it 74,000 to go from the button. Daniel Negreanu folded his small blind and Jonathan Duhamel thought long and hard from the big blind. Duhamel moved a tower of 550,000 forward and Schemion mucked. Soika called all in for less and the hands were put on their backs.

Soika: {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}
Duhamel: {A-Hearts}{k-Hearts}

The board ran out {K-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} and Duhamel was able to score the knockout. Soika was eliminated in 11th place and Duhamel built his stack up to 1.14 million.
