Gaens Gets There

Level 26 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

There was a big chip swing over on the feature table just now. The hand began with Remi Castaignon raising from the cutoff and getting two callers in Noel Gaens (small blind) and Eilert Eilertsen (big blind), the pot totaling 270,000 when the flop came {5-Clubs}{7-Spades}{8-Clubs}.

Gaens led with a bet and Eilertsen called, and when Castaignon raised, Gaens and he ended up getting all of Gaens's chips in the middle with Eilertsen stepping aside, the pot having ballooned up over 2 million in the process.

Gaens held {6-Spades}{5-Spades} for a pair of fives with an open-ended straight draw while Castaignon had {K-Spades}{K-Hearts}. The {8-Diamonds} on the turn meant Castaignon was still in front, but the {9-Spades} on the river completed the straight for Gaens to earn him the big pot.
