Hille Climbing

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Elisabeth Hille
Elisabeth Hille

Elisabeth Hille just survived after putting her chips at risk with {K-Spades}{Q-Spades} and hoping to improve versus Benjamin Truzman's {4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}. The board ran out {5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{J-Hearts} to give Hille the better pair and the double-up.

"Next time I will call you," said Tobias Matuschek to Hille from a few seats over. She asked what he had, and he answered A-9. "Next time I won't push," she grinned.

Hille's status has improved, although she still sits with a little over half the average stack — about 68k — with 342 players left.

The King is Dead, Long Live the King (Whoever They May Be)

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Vadzim Kursevich on day 1b
Vadzim Kursevich on day 1b

There will no back-to-back champion at EPT Deauville after the elimination of last season's champion, Vadzim Kursevich.

The details are vague but what we know is that he shoved all in with king-queen and was called by Thomas Butzhammer holding pocket queens. It was a bad spot for Kursevich that didn't improve.

Cardyn Catching Cards

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

The last hand of Level 9 completed a most profitable 75 minutes for Nicolas Cardyn with a knockout of his fellow Frenchman Denis Patout.

That hand saw Patout all in on the turn holding {A-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} on a {9-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{8-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} board. Patout had hopes of hitting a double-gutshot draw versus Cardyn who held {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts} for top set. But the river brought the {Q-Clubs} to improve Cardyn to quads, putting out Patout.

Kastle Crumbling

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Casey Kastle with twice the stack on day 1b
Casey Kastle with twice the stack on day 1b

Casey Kastle started the day second in chips with more than 200,000 but today has not been so kind to him.

His latest pot loss came in a battle of the blinds versus Artur Karamuca. The two had made it to the river of a {5-Clubs}{a-Spades}{10-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} board with 16,000 chips in the middle.

Karamuca bet a relatively small 6,800 and this seemed to confuse Kastle. After some head scratching he elected to fold.

Mattsson Mauled By Mitchell

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

James Mitchell has just found himself on the correct side of an aces-versus-kings scenario and is now armed with 140,000 chips.

A preflop raising war resulted in Mattsson being all in with {K-Spades}{K-Clubs} and in real trouble against the {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} of Mitchell. The {A-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{q-Spades} flop gifted Mitchell top set but gave Mattsson outs to a straight. Those ooouts failed to make an appearance though, as the turn and river were the {5-Diamonds} and {Q-Hearts} respectively. Mattsson is no more.

Daniel Out of the Lion's Den

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

Daniel Ospina moved all in for about 8,000 preflop over the top of Said Basri's initial raise, the latter deciding to give him a spin with {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs}. Ospina flipped {A-Spades}{J-Clubs} and although the {K-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} flop looked safe, the {6-Clubs} turn gave Basri a huge number of outs but he contrived to miss them all on the {A-Diamonds} river.

Geshkenbein Busts Out

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

Vladimir Geshkenbein has just been eliminated when his ace-queen couldn't quite get there against a pair of kings so he will not be adding the EPT Deauville title to his EPT Snoefest one — not this year anyway.
