Late Arrivals

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

Late registration is open all day today and people are still arriving. In fact, you can register till the beginning of day two tomorrow.

Just now we saw three recognizable Dutch players enter. Serial EPT casher Paul Berende made his way to the registration desk, online savant Thomas Brader walked in and Freerk Post (22nd for €23,000 here last year) handed over €5,300 for a seat.

The tournament clock now makes mention of 428 registered players. 356 of those are still in the tournament at this time making for a tournament average of 36,000.

Shallow Closing in on 100,000

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante
Dave Shallow
Dave Shallow

Dave 'Dubai' Shallow is the probable chip leader right now with a stack of around 96,000. He'd evidently just won a pot when I arrived at his table as he was still stacking chips, he didn't have time to finish that job though as he three-bet to 2,050 over the top of Sebastien Lapeyre's open. One seat to the left of Shallow is Sergii Baranov, he elected to smooth call and when it got back to Lapeyre the Frenchman did likewise.

On the {5-Clubs}{6-Spades}{8-Hearts} flop Shallow bet 2,400, Baranov raised to 6,000 and Lapeyre tank-folded. Shallow then got an eyes on chip count of Baranov's stack (21,000 back) before moving all-in. After a wry smile Baranov mucked his cards. Pot to Shallow.

O'Dwyer Busto

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

Steve O'Dwyer just made his exit from the tournament area. He only played for two hours since he didn't feel all too well this morning.

His day went as he felt, not too good. O'Dwyer first made the nut flush but ran into someone hitting runner runner boat.

Just now he lost the rest of his chips against Team PokerStars Pro Luca Pagano. O'Dwyer's {A-}{K-} couldn't hit against Pagano's {Q-}{Q-} and that was all she wrote.

O'Dwyer will stick around this week for the side events he told us, but first back to his room to get some more sleep.

Agusti Blow to Cunningham

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Francis Agusti has doubled up through Tom Cunningham. It looked as though all the chips had gone in on the flop of {Q-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{K-Clubs} with Cunningham having flopped top two pair with {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}. Agusti though, had flopped the straight with {J-Clubs}{10-Clubs} which held on a {5-Hearts} turn and {J-Hearts} river for the win.

Midday Intermission for the Day 1B Comedy-Action-Drama-Adventure

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante
Patrick Bruel
Patrick Bruel

They've crossed the midpoint of Day 1B at EPT10 Deauville, site of the famous annual American Film Festival that has come to the seaside city for nearly four decades. So far the Day 1B cast numbers more than 420 players, a big jump over Day 1A's field of 234. Patrick Bruel — who as an actor has starred in dozens of films and television shows — is among the group of players who have chipped up thus far today in an attempt to land a leading role in the tournament.

Check the PokerStars blog for a synopsis of today's heroes and heroines, the supporting cast, and those failing to make it beyond the event's first reel.

Watts Badly Hurt

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Ibrahim Ghassan from Lebanon and Steven Watts rom the UK just played a huge pot. It all went in preflop and Watts was distraught to see his {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs} was up against the {a-Spades}{a-Clubs} of his opponent. Watts had his opponent covered but Ghasssan had 45,425 behind. The board ran out {j-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{5-Clubs} and Ghassan doubled up to an just over 91k. A visibly upset Watts said he’d had kings last hand and had folded it as he knew he was beat the way the board came out . That time he didn’t have a chance to get away and his stack is massively dented.

Deadman Beats Lewis

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante
Simon Deadman
Simon Deadman

Simon Deadman opened to what looked to be 700-800 preflop from the button before Toby Lewis three-bet to 2,500 in the small blind. Deadman made the call, one of the few times he is able to have position on his opponent on this table.

The flop was {K-Spades}{5-Clubs}{7-Clubs} and Lewis fired a bet of 3,000 but Deadman made the call to see the {Q-Clubs} on the turn. The former EPT Vilamoura champion slowed right down and checked - Deadman responded with a 3,600 bet and Lewis made the call.

The river was the {6-Spades} and Lewis checked again, this time Deadman bet 8,100. Lewis went deeper into the tank than an Olympic diver, taking over five minutes before he eventually decided to fold his hand.

Dutchies Involved in Big Pots

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante
Jasper Wetemans
Jasper Wetemans

EPT regular Jasper Wetemans played a rather big pot with pocket aces. Unfortunately for him, his opponent had aces as well. To make mathers worst things got kinda scary for Wetemans when his opponent picked up a flush draw. The pot didn't end in a catastrophe for Wetemans as the river blanked out. The Dutchman is still doing fine, with 55,000 he's playing well above average.

On the other end of the tournament room his friend Joep van den Bijgaart is playing. Van den Bijgaart, who made the EPT final table in Berlin the year Ben Wilinofsky won (seventh for €100,000), three bet a player with {K-}{9-} off suit. His opponent made the call and open shoved for about two and a half times the pot on {K-}{10-}{3-} with two clubs. Van den Bijgaart called with his top pair and was up against {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}.

According to the PokerNews Poker Odds Calculator Van den Bijgaart was actually slightly behind with his top pair, but he managed to dodge his opponents outs and won the hand. Van den Bijgaart now plays 50,000.
