McDonald Wins at the Showdown Without a Showdown

Level 6 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

With 60,000 in the pot and a board reading {j-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}, Philipp Gruissem bet 35,000 from the under-the-gun position and Mike "Timex" McDonald, who finished runner-up at this year's PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, called him from the cutoff.

When the {3-Diamonds} completed the board on the river, Gruissem bet 77,000 and McDonald called. The man known as "Philbort" had obviously been caught trying to steal, and he promptly mucked his cards. That allowed McDonald to win the hand without having to expose his cards.

Mizzi Squeezes All In

Level 6 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

Ole Schemion opened for 7,200 from the Hijack and Steve O’Dwyer called in the cutoff. Sorel Mizzi had found the spot he was waiting for and shoved his last 898,400, about 30 big blinds, from the button.

Senh Ung gave it some serious thought in the big blind, but Mizzi didn’t have to wait too long until everyone folded and he picked up some much needed chips.

Yong Doubles Through Troyanovskiy

Level 6 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

The early developments of the hand escaped us, but we do know there was approximately 50,000 in the pot when action exploded on the turn with the board reading {7-Clubs}{10-Spades}{6-Spades}{j-Clubs}. Richard Yong, who if you recall tried bluffing on his very first hand, managed to get his stack in against Vladimir Troyanovskiy, who got off to a hot start today but seems to be stuck in reverse.

Yong: {8-Spades}{9-Spades}
Troyanovskiy: {10-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}

Troyanovskiy held top pair, but he was drawing dead to the flopped straight of Yong. The meaningless {3-Clubs} was put out on the river for good measure, and Yong was pushed the pot while an aggravated Troyanovskiy took stock of his remaining chips.

Flush Over Flush

Level 6 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

We're not entirely sure what had happened, but in a battle of the blinds between Dan Smith (small blind) and Fabian Quoss (big blind) things didn't really even get all that much out of hand. Considering the hands they had, a lot more chips might have gotten in were this your local tournament.

Well, these are not your local $10 rebuy players who shove allin with every flush. On a {Q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{J-Spades}{5-Diamonds} board Smith checked. Quoss bet out for, what appeared, 60,000. Smith thought about it for quite some time, before calling.

Quotss confidently showed {7-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for the flopped flush. Dan Smith had a slightly better flush though with {8-Clubs}{5-Clubs}, and took it down.

Vogelsang Doesn't Believe Any Of It

Level 6 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Christoph Vogelsang
Christoph Vogelsang

Not too long ago we saw Lo Shing Fung limp-raise under the gun from 10,000 to 60,000. Olivier Busquet tried to isolate the limper, but folded after he saw the big raise.

We also saw a pot recently where Shing Fung had middle-set and check-called his way to a bigger stack. Christoph Vogelsang, the online super star, tried to bluff him with a missed flush draw, but didn't succeed.

Vogelsang did better in a pot just now. Again Shing Fung limped under the gun, but this time he just called instead of limp-reraise, after Vogelsang's 10,500 isolation raise.

Both players checked the {A-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{6-Clubs}-flop. The turn came the {J-Spades} and Shing Fung bet out 13,000. Vogelsang made the call and the river came the {5-Spades}.

Shing Fung played with his 25,000 chips, but eventually tapped the table to indicate the check. Vogelsang bet a mere 15,000 and without much hesitation, Shing Fung raised it up to 90,000 by tossing in three 25,000 chips and three 5,000 chips.

The decision was back on Vogelsang who thought some time before calling. Shing Fung tabled {2-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for a rivered pair. Vogelsang had missed the flop as well, but had hit a better pair on the turn with his {K-Spades}{J-Diamonds}.

Haxton River Bet Puzzle for O’Dwyer

Level 6 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Isaac Haxton
Isaac Haxton

Isaac Haxton opened for 9,000 on the button and Steve O’Dwyer made it 29,000 from the big blind. Haxton made the call.
The flop was {2-Clubs}{8-Spades}{4-Spades} and O’Dwyer continued the aggression with a bet of 38,000. Haxton made the call.

The turn was the {3-Hearts} and O’Dwyer checked. Haxton considered what to do for a while and then he also checked.
The river was the {8-Diamonds} and again O’Dwyer checked. Haxton bet 70,000 into a pot of 208,000.

O’Dwyer thought about it, trying to puzzle out what Haxton was up to. He had 230,000 behind and was scratching his head. He took nearly three minutes but eventually smiled and made the call.

Haxton tabled {a-Hearts}{8-Hearts} .He did indeed have it and O’Dwyer's stack suffered some damage.
