Okhotskyi Gives Martin the Finger

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Oleh Okhotskyi opened with a raise from the under-the-gun position and received a call from Maxim Lykov in the small blind. Martin Finger, who won the EPT10 London £50,000 Super High Roller for £821,000 back in October, then came along from the big and three players took a flop of {j-}{8-}{7-}.

Lykov led out for 3,500, the other two players called, and a {9-} appeared on the turn. Lykov checked, Finger bet 7,500, and Okhotskyi simply shoved all in. Lykov quickly folded, but Finger called off holding {10-}{9-} for a flopped straight. Unfortunately for him, Okhotskyi had turned a bigger one with {q-}{10-}. The river was of no consequence, and Finger made his way to the exit.

River Devastates Soulier

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Fabrice Soulier
Fabrice Soulier

After a player had opened for 2,100 and Fabrice Soulier called, Carl Carlsson three-bet to 10,500. The original raiser folded, Soulier called, and it was heads-up action to the {j-Spades}{8-Clubs}{10-Spades} flop. Soulier checked and Carlsson shoved all in for 29,000. Soulier thought for a good spell before calling, and he perked up when he saw it was the right call.

Soulier: {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}
Carlsson: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}

Soulier was ahead with his pocket nines and straight draw, but Carlsson was drawing live to either an ace, king, or queen. The {8-Diamonds} turn paired the board, which didn't change anything, and then the dealer burned a final time and put out the {K-Spades}. Carlsson found one of his outs to double while a look of disgust crossed the Frenchman's face.

Katchalov Off to a Bad Start

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Eugene Katchalov reentered not too long a go and is now seated at the same table as his good friend and colleague Team PokerStars Pro Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier. Not just "ElkY" is on the table but guys like Kurganov and Nitsche are there as well. It's not just the tough competition that could make fir an unhappy face on Katchalov, the pot he just lost might have something to do with it as well.

Zoltan Szabo opened the hijack to 2,500 and Katchalov in the big blind was the sole caller. Katchalov check called a 3,000 bet on {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} and led out 6,000 himself on the {3-Diamonds}-turn. Szabo made the call in position and awaited the river.

The {7-Hearts} made for a double paired board and Katchalov checked. Szabo bet out 10,000 and after some thinking, Katchalov called. Szabo showed his {A-Hearts}{6-Clubs} and Katchalov mucked.

Cates is in a Rush

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Daniel Cates
Daniel Cates

As we arrived the turn was already on the board ({J-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}) and Jonathan Duhamel had bet 25,000 from the small blind. Action was on Daniel Cates who was talking to himself.

"You can have ace-ten, or king-nine" is what we heard, but a lot of other words were coming from his mouth which we couldn't really hear well, let alone place into context.

Cates was really pondering, and with a stack of 63,600 in front of him he clearly had a tough decision. The player in seat one asked the dealer to call for time. The brush came over and Cates asked him a question even before the brush had told him that he would have one minute left to act on his hand.

"Am I allowed to ask you how many hours till the money?" asked Cates to the brush. The brush on duty didn't really seem to understand the question, or at least thought he had misheard Cates. "Am I allowed to ask you how many hours till the money?" Cates repeated.

The brush assured Cates that he could. "But first I'm going to tell you that you have one minute to act on your hand" the brush continued.

While the brush stared at the clock Cates then asked the actual question again: "How long do you think it will take before we're in the money?" The brush, probably not faced by that question on a daily basis, stumbled a little bit and eventually answered, "We'll probably be in the money somewhere tomorrow afternoon."

As soon as the brush answered, Cates splashed all of his chips in. Duhamel reluctantly called, not happy with the situation. The Canadian PokerStars Team Pro remarked that the brush shouldn't give that kind of information in the middle of the hand, but it wouldn't change what followed.

Duhamel turned over {K-Spades}{10-Spades} and Cates smashed his {J-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} on the table. Cates seemed very excited and awaited the river before really celebrating. Nobody was celebrating with him though, and Duhamel's face only got grumpier as the {8-Spades} hit the felt to ensure Cates' double up.

"That really was a big deciding factor," Cates commented on the somewhat unusual question, "if I was going to have to sit here for another $%^!@# lifetime..."

Duhamel still has a playable stack with about 57,000. Meanwhile Cates might be in for some more hours of play as he now has just under 140,000.

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Preflop, Russian player Maxim Panyak raised it up from the cutoff and just Dominik Panka came along to see a flop from the big blind.

{5-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}

Panka check called a 2,000 bet and check called another 6,000 on the {K-Hearts} on the turn.
