Cates Doesn't Have His Day

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

On a {Q-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{9-Clubs} board there were still three players with cards in front of them.

Daniel Cates in the hijack was one of them and he bet out 10,000. His neighbor Jens Lakemeier in the cut off thought about it for a little bit, and then called. Davidi Kitai on the button folded.

Cates didn't show his hand immediately and squeezed his cards to take a look at them once more himself. This gave Lakemeier enough information and the German player tabled his {Q-Spades}{6-Spades} for trips.

This hand infuriated Cates who threw his cards so hard to the middle of the table that one of them skipped and landed in Jonathan Duhamel's stack on the other end of the table.

While Duhamel rolled his eyes at Cates' behavior, Cates himself started talking to no one in particular, recapping the hand and how he didn't understand the play of his neighbor.

"It's just a game man" said Duhamel to Cates. Cates didn't directly respond to that comment and continued to talk about how "that was literally the worst possible outcome of the hand.

Play continued with Cates on the short stack and Lakemeier a little bit richer.

Jacobson Making the Most of His Second Bullet

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Martin Jacobson, who has already won a side event here at the EPT10 Veinna, has already busted this tournament, but thanks to the reentry option, he is back in action and making the most of his second bullet.

In a recent hand, Raoul Refos opened for 3,000 from the button and was met by a three-bet to 7,800 by Jacobson. Refos responded by four-bet jamming and Jacobson called off for 42,000.

Jacobson: {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}
Refos: {5-Diamonds}{5-Spades}

It was a flip, but Jacobson was the one that needed to improve to stay alive. That's just what he did when the flop came down {q-Clubs}{k-Spades}{2-Diamonds}. Neither the {6-Hearts} turn nor {10-Hearts} river changed a thing, and Jacobson claimed the pot.

Soika Hunts the Jungleman

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Ihar Soika raised from the hijack only to have Daniel "Jungleman" Cates three-bet to 8,000 from the small blind. After the big folded, Soika pushed back with a four-bet to 17,800 and Cates, who has taken his fair share of time to act throughout the day, tanked for about two minutes before calling.

When the flop fell {2-Hearts}{8-Spades}{10-Diamonds}, Cates checked and Soika thought for nearly two minute before betting 15,400. Cates snap-called and then checked the {7-Clubs} turn. Soika once again hit the tank for over two minutes, and finally someone at the table called for a clock. When the floor made her way over, Soika put in a bet of 33,000 and Cates called fairly quickly.

Cates then checked for a third time on the {3-Hearts} river, and Soika didn't take too long before moving all in. Cates snap-folded and once again began mumbling to himself.

Gruissem Hits the River

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

German super star Philipp Gruissem just opened in late position and the only Estonian player in the field today (so far), Madis Muur, made the call from the big blind.

Muur checked to Gruissem on {J-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} and called the 3,000 continuation bet that followed. The {7-Spades} fell on the turn and both players checked. {9-Hearts} on the river and Muur checked once again. Gruissem slid forward a 5,000 and three 1,000 chips and the decision was once more on Muur. Muur thought about it for a little bit and then called the 8,000 bet.

Gruissem showed his {9-Spades}{5-Spades} for the rivered pair, and took down the pot as Muur mucked.

Holz Shoves Into the Wrong Hand

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Action folded to a short-stacked Fedor Holz on the button and he shoved all in for his last 12,800. The small blind folded, and then Russia's Aslan Daurov wasted little time in calling him from the big.

Daurov: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}
Holz: {9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}

Holz ran into a big hand, but it wasn't terrible as he was drawing to two live cards. Unfortunately for him, things got terrible when the {q-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{3-Hearts} flop delivered Daurov a pair of queens. The {Q-Hearts} turn improve Daurov to trips, but it also gave Holz hope as he picked up a flush draw to any non-ace heart.

The dealer burned one last time and put out the {9-Diamonds}. Holz paired his nine, but it wasn't enough to keep him in the tournament.

Panka Versus Panyak

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Preflop, Russian player Maxim Panyak raised it up from the cutoff and just Dominik Panka came along to see a flop from the big blind.

{5-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}

Panka check called a 2,000 bet and check called another 6,000 on the {K-Hearts} on the turn.

The river was the {J-Spades} and Panka checked. Panyak checked behind and mucked with a small sigh after Panka tabled {K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}.
