Schemion Pays Off Fares In Huge Hand

Level 27 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Ole Schemion
Ole Schemion

Hand #80: Fares folded {A-Spades}{4-Diamonds} under the gun. Lodden found {K-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and made it 100,000 from the button. Garcia in the big blind made the call with {J-Spades}{6-Spades}. The flop came {K-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{5-Clubs}, putting Lodden well in front. Garcia check-folded to Lodden's 105,000 continuation bet.

Hand #81: El Asmar made it 110,000 under the gun with {J-Hearts}{10-Hearts}. His neighbor Ole Schemion three-bet to 330,000 with {Q-Spades}{J-Clubs}. Fares in the big blind folded {3-Spades}{3-Clubs} and action was back on El Asmar, he called. The flop came {10-Spades}{6-Clubs}{4-Hearts} and El Asmar out flopped Schemion. El Asmar checked, and Schemion bet 340,000. El Asmar check-raised to 685,000 and Schemion folded.

Hand #82: Garcia opened {A-Spades}{3-Diamonds} on the button to 100,000 and he picked up the blinds and antes.

Hand #83: Fares made it 110,000 from the button holding {K-Spades}{9-Spades}. El Asmar in the small blind made the call with {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}, Schemion in the big blind over called with {J-Hearts}{10-Clubs}.

The flop came {10-Spades}{5-Spades}{3-Clubs}, giving Schemion top pair and Fares the flush draw. All three of them checked.

The {J-Clubs} hit the turn and El Asmar bet 115,000 with his gutshot. Schemion, now with two pair, raised it up to 390,000. Fares, with the gutshot and second nut flush draw, made the call. El Asmar got out of the way after some tanking.

With 1,255,000 in the middle, the {A-Spades} hit the river, giving Fares the nuts. Schemion had 2.3 million left at this point, and bet 420,000. Fares raied it up to 1,400,000 and Schemion called after some tanking. The pot went to Fares and Schemion continued as one of the shortest stacks in the tournament.

Hand #93: Schemion moved all-in for his remaining 910,000 chips from the button and Adrian Mateos called from the big blind.

Schemion: {a-Spades}{3-Clubs}
Mateos: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

The flop was {j-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{q-Spades} and ace-king was still way int he lead. The {6-Hearts} on the turn was no help to Schemion who was left with three outs. The {2-Spades} on the river wasn't one of them and Ole Schemion, the EPT 10 Player of the Year exited in 6th place (€233,500)

Jose Carlos Garcia

Hand #102: Jose Carlos Garcia had been short for a while and he moved all-in from the cutoff with a suited Ace, and Fares snap-called with kings.

Fares: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Garcia: {a-Spades}{9-Spades}

The flop came {6-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{7-Clubs} which was no help as neither player held a club. The turn was the {j-Clubs} which gave chop-outs to Garcia as any club would keep him alive. However the river was the {10-Spades} and Garcia was eliminated in 5th place (€297,250).

PokerStars SCOOP Returns May 10 With $40 Million in Guaranteed Prizes

Level 28 : 30,000/60,000, 10,000 ante

Online poker players from around the world are gearing up for the 2015 Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) starting this Sunday on PokerStars.

The annual poker festival takes place from May 10-24, featuring 46 events types - or 138 events in total - broken out into low, medium, and high buy-ins with a mouth-watering $40 million in guaranteed prize pools.

Every day during the 15-day poker festival features three different events types, with the first-day featuring four different events. The series kicks off on May 10 at 8:00 am ET with SCOOP-01-L: $11 NL Hold'em featuring a $75,000 guarantee, SCOOP-01-M: $109 NL Hold'em [Sunday Kickoff SE] with a $150,000 guarantee, and SCOOP-01-H: $1,050 NL Hold'em with a $300,000 guarantee.

The series caters to both low-limit and high-limit players with event buy-ins ranging from $7.50 to $21,000, with each event featuring a big guaranteed prize pool.

While most of the events are in no-limit hold'em, the schedule also features just about every poker variant PokerStars offers including limit hold'em, pot-limit Omaha, H.O.R.S.E., eight-game, 2-7 single draw, and badugi. Additionally, there are many different formats on the schedule including freezeout, turbo, heads-up, knockouts, rebuys, shootouts, and Zoom poker.

The highlight of the SCOOP are the three Main Events taking place on May 24 at 2:30 pm ET. The low SCOOP Main Event features a $1 million guaranteed prize pool for a $109 buy-in, the medium Main Event features a $2 million guaranteed prize pool for a $1,050 buy-in, and the high Main Event features a $4 million guaranteed prize pool for a $10,300 buy-in.

Russia's Ivan "vandir4rek" Soshnikov won last year's $10,300 SCOOP Main Event, beating out 657-players to win $1,048,000 as part of a three-way deal.

Players have a chance to qualify into all the SCOOP events cheaper via satellites running around the clock on PokerStars. Satellites start at just $0.11 or one FPP giving many poker players a chance to play in this year's SCOOP.

Season 11 EPT Player of the Year Races Coming Down To the Wire

Level 29 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante

Beyond all of the tournament titles that everyone guns for on the European Poker Tour, many strive to win the PokerStars EPT Player of the Year award.

Powered by the Global Poker Index, the EPT Player of the Year award is broken down into three tiers. According to EPT.com, "the Silver tier will award points for all events with a buy-in of $600 and lower; the Gold tier will award points for all events with a buy-in of $3,000 and lower; and the Platinum tier will count all events across the EPT Festivals, no matter the buy-in, so every EPT player can take their shot at Player of the Year glory."

Points are accumulated using the GPI formula — "an independent points scoring system that ranks live tournament poker players." There are a few factors that apply to the formula, and you can learn about how it all works by clicking here.

As it stands right now, Dzmitry Urbanovich leads the Platinum level with 3,457.79 points. He's over 160 points of Joao Vieira in second place, and then Vladimir Troyanovskiy is the only other player above 3,000. In a note to the media from PokerStars, Urbanovich was quoted as saying that the award "means more to me than the money."

With the festival coming to a close, all members in the top 10 have been seen trying to squeak out every last-second points they can. Urbanovich is definitely one of those grinding away in the tournament room, and although he has a solid lead, there could certainly be some movement and pressure at Season 11 comes to a close.

Urbanovich also tops the Gold standings, and he's up again over Vieira. This time, though, Urbanovich is over 350 points ahead of his counterpart, so his lead is slightly more comfortable.

Mateos Bluffs Lodden in Amazing Hand

Level 29 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
Johnny Lodden
Johnny Lodden

Hand #134: Lodden made it 160,000 to got with {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} and Adrian Mateos with {J-Spades}{10-Spades} on the button called. Fares in the small blind called with {9-Hearts}{6-Hearts}, El Asmar had {8-Spades}{6-Spades} in the big blind and called as well. Family pot!

The flop came {A-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} and it was checked around to Mateos. The Spaniard bet 275,000 and Fares with second pair called, El Asmar folded. Lodden now check-raised to 715,000. Mateos, with nothing but some back doors, called in position. Fares folded the best hand.

With 2,385,000 in the pot, the {4-Clubs} fell on the turn. Lodden (with 2.7 million behind) checked and Mateos bet 650,000. Lodden made the call.

The {A-Diamonds} fell on the river and Lodden checked with 3,685,000 in the pot. Mateos moved all in after some heavy tanking. Lodden tanked even longer.

After about four minutes, he double checked his cards and said "Still the same cards" with a smile.

Eventually Lodden decided against it, and he folded the best hand. Mateos showed the bluff and Lodden couldn't hide his frustration, though he did it with class.

Johnny Lodden Eliminated in 4th Place (€379,000)

Level 29 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
Johnny Lodden
Johnny Lodden

Hand #153: Johnny Lodden found {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} under the gun and made it 160,000. Commentators Joe Stapleton, James Hartigan and Daniel Negreanu knew what was coming, and predicted he would go with this hand whatever happened.

Muhyedine Fares in the small blind had {A-Diamonds}{9-Spades} and three-bet to 340,000. El Asmar tanked for a bit with {7-Clubs}{6-Hearts} in the big blind, but folded.

Lodden announced all in for 1,170,000 not much later. Fares called.

The flop came {2-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}, devastating news for Lodden.

The {5-Hearts} on the turn and {10-Hearts} on the river didn't help, and Lodden exited in fourth place. Two years ago he finished third in this event for €467,000, this year he had to settle for €379,000.

Hand #168: Adrian Mateos folded his button and Muhyedine Fares in the small blind found {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs} and made it 200,000. Hady El Asmar with {8-Hearts}{6-Clubs} made the call.

The flop came {2-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{8-Diamonds}, hitting El Asmar. Fares bet 275,000 into the pot of 430,000.

El Asmar raised it up to 635,000 and Fares wasn't folding, he moved 2,275,000 over the line and El Asmar called all in!

"That escalated quickly" commentator James Hartigan said on the live stream.

El Asmar needed an eight or six, but it wouldn't come. The {J-Hearts} on the turn was as blank as they could come, and so was the {Q-Spades} on the river.

The aces held up for Fares, and El Asmar hit the rail in third place for €486,000.

Hand #219: Mateos opened with the ace-seven and got three-bet by Fares with the ace-ten. Mateos folded.

Hand #220: Fares opened with {A-Hearts}{9-Clubs} and Mateos called with the {7-Spades}{4-Spades}. 660,000 in the pot and both hit something on {A-Spades}{4-Hearts}{7-Hearts}.

Mateos checked and Fares bet 425,000. Mateos, having flopped two pair, check-raised to 1,100,000. Fares, with the top-pair and back door flush draw, three-bet 2,675,000. Mateos shoved all in for 7,045,000. Fares made the call without much hesitation.

A 14,750,000 pot was the result. Mateos was well in front with his two pair (72% equity), up against Fares one pair (28% equity).

This could be the last hand of the tournament, but it was a long shot. The {J-Diamonds} on the turn gave Fares some new outs. The {K-Clubs} on the river was a blank though, and Mateos doubled! Fares dropped down to under 20 big blinds.
