Aces Over Kings

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

We found Mike Adamo considering what looked to be a four-bet to 6,000 from Alexandros Kolonias, who was on the button. Adamo had made it 3,150 under the gun, and after a couple of minutes of thought, he stacked all of his chips and pushed them in, 20,550 total. Kolonias immediately called and tabled {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}, but Adamo had the cooler, {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}.

The board ran out {j-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{a-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}, leaving Kolonias dead on the turn.

Tulica Gets Aces Full Paid

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Iani Tulica thought for a minute or so before betting 7,575 into a pot of about 10,000 on the end. His opponent had checked the {6-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{a-Hearts} board, and that player in turn thought for about two minutes before sliding in a call. Tulica had {a-Spades}{8-Spades} for aces full and took the pot

Johnny Lodden and Bruno Fitoussi grabbed seats at two other tables in the meantime.

One for the Irishman

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

With 3,000 or so in the pot and a flop of {4-Clubs}{6-Spades}{10-Clubs}, Ireland's Dermot Blain checked from the big blind and Switerland's Fernando Habegger did the same from the button. After the dealer burned and turned the {K-Spades}, Blain put out a bet, which looked to be roughly 1,500, and Habegger called to see the {2-Spades} river.

Blain bet again, this time 2,800, and Habegger made the call only to muck when the Irishman rolled over the {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} for top pair.

A Lesson in Big Blind Defense

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

At two adjacent tables, two top pros were seated in the big blind. Jake Cody was up first and he saw a limp, a raise and a call in front of him. He called and so did the limper and the four players saw a flop of {Q-Clubs}{A-Clubs}{K-Spades}. The original limper, Sebastian Ruiz Figueroa of Chile then bet out 600 and Jake was the only caller. The turn card of the {A-Spades} was checked by both players and they saw a {Q-Spades} river.

Like in an earlier hand, Jake tossed out a single blue chip, worth 5,000, into the middle but declared his bet at 3,000. Figueroa eventually folded. One blind successfully defended.

Dato meanwhile had seen an open from the cutoff by and called in the big blind. He saw a flop of {J-Hearts}{K-Spades}{J-Diamonds} and check-raised his opponent's bet of 350 to 1,025. His opponent folded. Make that two blinds successfully defended.

De Melo Eliminates Winz

Fatima Moreira de Melo
Fatima Moreira de Melo

Fatima Moreira De Melo scored an early elimination with {a-}{10-}, which appeared to be good for tens full on a board of {10-Spades}{5-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{5-Spades}, though it was difficult to tell before the dealer swept up the board. She collected the last 8,000 or so of Berthold Winz, whose cards were already in the muck.

Bad Start for a Team PokerStars Pro

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

With 3,850 in the pot and a board reading {4-Hearts}{4-Spades}{3-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{3-Spades}, Germany's Heinz Kamutzki checked from the small blind and Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody tossed out a single blue T5,000 chip from middle position. There was a full house on the board, and Kamutzki thought long and hard about what to do.

Eventually he tossed in a call, and Cody tabled the {q-Clubs}{8-Clubs} to show he was playing the said full house. It was no good though as Kamutzki held a better one with the {10-Spades}{10-Clubs} in the hole.

Tureniec Already Doing Better Than He Did in Malta

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Michael Tureniec, the first player eliminated from the EPT Malta Main Event, is faring a bit better here in Monaco — or at least he still has chips in front of him!

In a recent hand, there was around 2,200 in the pot and a board reading {j-Spades}{5-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} when Greece's Evangelos Vrakas checked from the cutoff and Tureniec bet 1,150 from the button. Vrakas made the call and then check-called a bet of 2,400 on the {2-Spades} river, which prompted Tureniec to table the {j-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for a full house.

"Split," Vrakas said and rolled over the {j-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} for the same hand.
