Durnegger Trusts His Read, But Busts

Level 23 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

Jimmy Guerrero limped under the gun and three more players called before Markus Durnegger raised from the big blind. Guerrero was the only player to call, and the flop brought out {K-Spades}{8-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}.

Durnegger continued for 70,000 and Guerrero raised it up to 175,000. Durnegger gave it some thought before calling, but ultimately he did.

The turn brought the {4-Hearts} and Durnegger check-called a bet of 150,000, after which the {A-Clubs} completed the board.

Durnegger checked the river, and Guerrero moved all in immediately. Almost immediately Guerrero said, "I will show if you fold, it's a big pot."

"It doesn't make sense to me," Durnegger said about a minute later, "You could have fours, or fives?"

A few more minutes went by, and with 220,000 chips left Durnegger had a big decision to make.

"You're a nice guy, I'll show you," Guerrero then said, as Durnegger kept thinking.

"Clock," another player then said, and in the final seconds Durnegger called.

Guerrero showed {5-Clubs}{5-Spades} for a flopped set, and Durnegger flashed {8-Spades}{7-Clubs} for a pair of eights, and he was knocked out.
