Vojtech Ruzicka just took a seat in the event, forcing the addition of another table. Ruzicka, of course, recently booked a fifth-place finish in the World Series of Poker Main Event for just under $2 million.
Paul Newey raised to 5,000 and Jean-Noel Thorel called from one seat over, as did Jason Wheeler on the button. The trio checked the flop of and Newey also checked the on the turn. Thorel bet 25,200 and Wheeler as well as Newey came along. On the river, the action checked to Wheeler and his bet of 46,500 forced two folds to claim the pot without showdown.
Orpen Kisacikoglu made it 5,000 to go and just [Removed:17] called out of the big blind, then quickly checked the flop. Kisacikoglu bet 5,000 and received a call before the duo checked the on the turn.
After the river, Yan bet 11,200 and Kisacikoglu quickly let go to give up the pot. Yan recovered some previous losses, but remained at around half the starting stack.
Max Silver raised under the gun to 4,500 and Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier called from the button. Nariman Yaghmai made it 19,000 to go from the small blind and only ElkY came along. Yaghmai bet 12,000 on the flop, and ElkY called. Yaghmai bet 40,000 more after thinking awhile on the turn and ElkY moved all in for 128,000.
Yaghmai tanked for a good four or five minutes before releasing.
Daniel Dvoress and Timothy Adams took seats at a neighboring table.
Steve O'Dwyer stopped by one table over and admired Martin Kabrhel's chip protector in the shape of a small hippo. O'Dwyer picked it up, and Kabrhel told him he (the hippo) wasn't too happy today, because of Isaac Haxton (presumably winning a lot of pots).
"Ike doesn't like animals..." Kabrhel said at one point while O'Dwyer had put the small hippo statue back on the table.
"That's right!" Haxton admitted with a big smile. "I like to eat them, though!"
"Have you eaten hippo?" Kabrhel asked while he raised to 4,500 from the button.
As Sergio Aido folded his small blind, Haxton called from the big blind and replied "No, have you?" with some sincere wondering in his voice.
"I don't know... Maybe in Asia. I think so" Kabrhel said as the flop came .
Haxton checked, and called the 4,000 bet that followed, before saying "Asia? I'm pretty sure they don't have hippos in Asia. They're in Africa."
While Steve O'Dwyer was looking up whether hippo's live in Asia or not (spoiler; they don't, while O'Dwyer did find a YouTube clip called Asian hippo?), both Haxton and Kabrhel checked the on the turn.
The completed the board and Haxton bet out 15,000.
"But they import them, to eat" Kabrhel defended before going into the tank for some time. He at one point cut out three 25,000-chips, but folded in the end.
Jean-Noel Thorel opened to 5,000 and Orpen Kisacikoglu three-bet to 15,000 from one seat over, picking up the call by the Frenchman. On the flop, both players invested 10,000 each and the on the turn then went check, check.
Thorel bet the river for 50,000, around the size of the pot, and Kisacikoglu gave it plenty of consideration before calling. Thorel shrugged and slowly turned over his , which Kisacikoglu had beat with for two pair.
Mikita Badziakouski raised from under the gun and picked up calls by Ole Schemion and Max Silver in the big blind. On the flop, Silver checked and Badziakouski bet 4,500. Schemion called, then both got out of the way when Silver had check-raised to 20,000.
Hand 2
One hand later, Vladimir Troyanovskiy raised it up to 5,000 from under the gun and Bertrand Grospellier called. Julian Thomas three-bet to 18,500 on the button and Troyanovskiy as well as Grospellier tossed in the additional chips.
After a flop of , all three players checked. The on the turn saw Troyanovskiy bet 28,500 and Grospellier folded, Thomas called. After the river, the action then slowed down and both players checked. Troyanovskiy was first to show after the button and flipped over , Thomas had that beat with and won the pot.
Vojtech Ruzicka bet about 8,000 from the big blind on a board of and Ali Reza Fatehi called from the button. Ruzicka bet 18,500 on the river and Fatehi called fairly quickly. Ruzicka showed for king-high, and Fatehi could beat that: .
Picking up the action on the turn, Martin Kabrhel checked out of the big blind and Sam Greenwood bet 10,000, which Kabrhel called. On the river, Kabrhel checked again and then joked in table chat to Isaac Haxton. "Do you want to bet? I think he will bet exactly 38,600," Kabrhel said and the table started smiling already.
Haxton didn't take the bet, then Greenwood made it 22,000 to go. Kabrhel called with the for two pair and had Greenwood's beat, leaving his opponent rather short towards the end of the level.
From first position, Orpen Kisacikoglu opened the action with a raise to 5,100. [Removed:17] called from the cutoff, big blind Jean-Noel Thorel closed the action by tossing in calling chips as well.
Both Thorel and Kisacikoglu checked on and Yan bet 9,000. Thorel was quick to check-raise to 26,000 and Kisacikoglu immediately laid it down. Yan called.
The turn was the and Thorel pushed all in for what appeared to be around 45,000 in chips. Yan called right away.
[Removed:17]:
Jean-Noel Thorel:
The on the river made Yan quads and Thorel made his exit from the tournament with a useless full house.
