Day 1a of the EPT National High Roller has come to an end after over 12 hours of poker with 158 players progressing to Day 2.

The flight drew a large number of entrants with the final count coming in at 1,053 with only 15% guaranteed a place in the money and a seat at the table from noon on Monday, August, 27.

Marc MacDonnell (600,000), Jack Salter (600,000) and Huesnue Salman (570,000) will all be among the top stacks at the start of play.

Team PokerStars pro Jeff Gross and Maria Konnikova have also secured a spot in the money and will be back in action alongside the likes of Anton Wigg, Benny Glaser, Vojtech Ruzicka, Will Kassouf, Charles Akadiri, and Guillaume Diaz.

Players such as Rex Clinkscales, Sylvain Loosli, Heidi May, Bart Lybaert, Chris Moorman, Jason Wheeler, Chris Da-Silva, Scott Margereson, Martin Jacobson and Kristen Bicknell all came and went.

A full list of Day 1a and Day 1b chip counts will be posted before the start of Day 2, when the players combine.

Ahoor Bubbles the EPT National High Roller; 158 Progress as the Day Ends

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

[Removed:44] was extremely short in chips and got his last few into the middle and got called by one opponent.

[Removed:44]: {5-Hearts}{6-Hearts}
Opponent: {a-Spades}{3-Clubs}

Board: {k-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}

Ahoor saw his hand take the lead on the flop with a pair of fives and was in great shape for a double up. But when the {a-Clubs} was revealed on the turn followed by the {j-Hearts} river his exit in 159th place was confirmed as the rest of the players celebrated getting into the money spots.

The play in Day 1a has now come to an end, and the 158 players will return at noon.

A recap of the day's action will follow, with the full chip counts for Day 2 posted before the start of play.

Grundtvig Hits a Set to Survive

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Christian Grundtvig got his last 50,000 into the middle with pocket fives and was called by an opponent who held pocket sevens.

The flop came down {j-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{9-Spades}, and Christian Grundtvig was up from his seat and all set to walk away before the {5-Hearts} hit the turn to give him a set, and the river changed nothing as he secured an unlucky reprieval before the end of the day.

The board is showing 162 players now remain with four more eliminations needed before the end of the day.

De Salvo Exits With a Set of Kings

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

With the action already completed on Marco De Salvo's table, he was stood up from his chair and taking a picture of the board that just sent him to the rail.

De Salvo hit a set of kings on the {2-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{5-Spades} board but it wasn't enough to survive, and his opponent held {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for the nut flush.

A cruel way to exit so close to the money spots for De Salvo, with the play now eight places from the bubble.
