One Barrel is Enough for Yu

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante
Winfred Yu
Winfred Yu

Winfred Yu was moved to the latest Main Event table to open and faces Arvydas Merfeldas, Zorlucan Er, Imad Derwiche and Mikalai Vaskaboinikau. It was the latter that opened and Yu three-bet to 3,100, which Vaskaboinikau called. On a flop of {a-Spades}{10-Hearts}{5-Hearts}, the Belorussian checked and folded when Yu made it 2,500 to go.

Caveriviere Doubles With Quads

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

Ramon Colillas had just sent an opponent to the rail to join fellow PokerStars ambassador Kalidou Sow as a big stack early on Day 1a.

Soon after the same table provided more fireworks as Hideki Izutsu bet the {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} turn and called the shove of Patrick Caveriviere for 9,1000 total.

Patrick Caveriviere: {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}
Hideki Izutsu: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}

Caveriviere already had the check mark and the {9-Spades} river was the icing on the cake.

Shafikov Pressures Kobayashi

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

Hirokazu Kobayashi has gotten short-stacked of late and opened to 1,000 from early position. It folded round to Denys Shafikov on the button who upped it to 3,000. After Kobayashi called, the pair headed to the flop.

It came {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{3-Spades} and Shafikov contined for a smaller sizing of 2,000 when checked to. Kobayashi called and the dealer put the {6-Spades} on the turn. This time when Kobayashi checked, Shafikov made it 6,000, half of his opponent's remaining stack and Kobayashi didn't waste any time folding.

Rezaei Runs Out of Chips in Spectacular Fashion

Level 6 : 200/500, 500 ante
Marton Czuczor
Marton Czuczor

Daniel Rezaei walked out of the tournament room with a stunned smile on the face and asked "do you want to have something for your coverage?" and then proceeded to provide a snapshot of his last hand.

Short, Rezaei had been all in with {j-Clubs}{j-Spades} against the {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts} of Marton Czuczor, who wanted to muck his cards on a {j-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{4-Spades} flop. The incredible {9-Spades} turn and {9-Diamonds} river run out gave Czuczor quads and Rezaei a bad beat story to tell.

Level 6 : 200/500, 500 ante

Sergio Aido entered Day 3 as the smallest stack, but a double up in the first orbit gave him some ammunition. Poker notables Sam Greenwood, Daniel Dvoress, Mikita Badziakouski, and Charlie Carrell cashed the event, but it was Aido who took home the first place prize of €1,589,190.

Yu Chips Up, Er Gone

Level 6 : 200/500, 500 ante
Zorlucan Er
Zorlucan Er

Table 21 broke and Zorlucan Er was no longer there. Winfred Yu showed up with a far bigger stack on his new table and confirmed he had sent Er to the rail when he raised with {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} and flopped the nut straight in a three-way pot. Er went broke with {a-}{10-} for top pair only and will have to re-enter.
