Loeser Jams Into Michaelis

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

Paul Michaelis is one of the two remaining former EPT champions with 25 hopefuls remaining and the German has a mountain to climb after folding to a shove from fellow countryman Manig Loeser. Michaelis had opened first to act and Loeser called in the cutoff.

A continuation bet and call on the {10-Spades}{3-Clubs}{2-Hearts} flop was followed up by a bet of 160,000 by Michaelis on the {a-Spades} turn. Loeser used one time bank extension and moved all in, which forced a near instant fold from Michaelis.

Riess Doubles Through Chouity

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

Once again the action folded to Nicolas Chouity in the small blind and once again he set short-stack Ryan Riess all in. Last time Riess folded but this orbit he made a call and was the slight favorite when they turned their cards over.

Ryan Riess: {k-Diamonds}{3-Spades}
Nicolas Chouity: {10-Spades}{9-Spades}

The board read {q-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{6-Clubs} and Chouity counted out 130,000 chips to hand over to his neighbour.

Ambrose Travers Keeps The Poker Party Going

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Ambrose Travers
Ambrose Travers

Three months ago Ambrose Travers was in the Bahamas. He and a group of friends were there to cheer on Darren Millar as the latter lived out his Platinum Pass dream in the PSPC. It was such a good time that nobody wanted the party to end.

Now Travers is playing on Day 4 of the EPT Monte Carlo event, where he is one of just 30 players remaining. It’s something of a sequel to the PSPC festivities: while Travers battles with Sam Greenwood and Nicolas Chouity on the TV table, Millar and some of the same friends that cheered him on are here rooting for Travers.

“They’re the best friends in the world, they are,” he told PokerStars Blog this afternoon. “Darren did so well in the Bahamas, we couldn’t wait to get back home to get to the next tournament. PokerStars ran such a marvelous party there, we says, ‘What’s the next big event?’ The next big event was this one.”

So he jumped into a €5.50 satellite. Six hours later, after winning that first satellite and then the €55 and €530 qualifiers that it fed into, he’d earned himself a package to play in Monte Carlo.

Greenwood Builds After Out-flopping Kvilhaug

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

Evy Kvilhaug opened to 40,000 in early position with {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs} and only Sam Greenwood got involved, calling with {q-}{5-} from the big blind.

The {k-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{5-Clubs} flop gave Greenwood bottom pair and he check-called the 50,000 continuation bet. The {q-Hearts} on the turn gave Kvilhaug second pair top kicker but it also saw Greenwood improve to top pair and after he checked, she checked it back.

The river was the {7-Hearts} and Greenwood bet 160,000 into the 210,000 pot and Kvilhaug made the call. She showed the queen after Greenwood opened the hand.

Castaignon Eliminated after Back-to-Back Clashes With Vogelsang

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Remi Castaignon
Remi Castaignon

Christoph Vogelsang chopped with Luis Media and the next hand he got it in preflop for his last 475,000 against Remi Castaignon in a battle cutoff versus button.

Christoph Vogelsang: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Remi Castaignon: {8-Hearts}{8-Spades}

The {j-Spades}{6-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{j-Hearts} board improved Vogelsang on the turn and Castaignon was left with just 150,000.

One hand later, Vogelsang opened to 45,000 and Castaignon moved all in from the cutoff. Nicola Grieco in the small blind let his shot clock run down to two seconds and folded, as did Timothy Adams in the big blind. Vogelsang called and was the one with the pocket pair this time.

Remi Castaignon: {a-Spades}{10-Clubs}
Christoph Vogelsang: {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}

The board came {9-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{6-Spades} and the eights held up this time around to eliminate Castaignon in 26th place.

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

Malinowski and Michaelis Clash

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Wiktor Malinowski
Wiktor Malinowski

Wiktor Malinowski made it 40,000 to go on the button and Paul Michaelis three-bet to 150,000 in the small blind, Malinowski stuck around and they headed to a {q-Spades}{j-Spades}{8-Diamonds} flop. Both players checked and Michaelis made it 135,000 to go, which Malinowski called after using one time bank extension.

On the {2-Diamonds} river, Michaelis emptied the clip and moved all in, Malinowski almost beat him into the pot and called for his last 330,000.

Michaelis turned over {7-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for a busted straight draw and Malinowski doubled with {k-Spades}{q-Clubs} for top pair.
